OMG!
Thank you for the reminder! It did not occur to me that I will certainly need wicks for the lanterns!
Where do you order yours?
Lehman's. I also pick them up there when we venture up. Don't forget mantles for your lanterns if any of yours have mantles.

Thanks for the reminder... I need to check for oil lamp wicks at one of the feed stores. Just as a reminder for those who are not aware: do not buy wicks from Wally World or Meijer. You pay for 1 pkg what I pay for an entire roll! I cannot find rolls of lantern wicks at Lehmans, only packages of 5 precut wicks. Can I trouble you for a part number or a brand, please?

It took me a looooong time to come around to using a credit card for all my day to day spending, but I made the switch almost 2 years ago and I have yet to pay one penny in fees or interest.
I'm going to spend the money anyway, why not get some money back?
Since I don't go out and buy stuff I can't afford to pay cash for, I don't buy it. I just run what I DO decide to purchase above and beyond normal monthly expenses through the CC, and get some cash back. I just make sure the thing gets paid off every month, and feed the rewards dollars back into it.
When I look at the money I get back on average, compared to the line items on my monthly budget, it's kinda fun to see that yep - I just covered that bill for no out of pocket, or that bill, or....

DH and I had a credit card for over 20 yrs that we paid off monthly. I continued to use it for several yrs after he passed away. Never had any issues but when I cancelled it I decided to try 6 months without a CC and decided I liked paying in cash. $15-20 free every month would be nice, but then I kind of like no one knowing what I’m purchasing. (I rarely write checks either.)

I agree, and for a number of years I bent backwards to pay cash for all my groceries etc, but in the end I decided having money going into my account was worth more to me since they prolly have known for years what I spend my money on after using my debit card for so long... it was too late, and too late to bather caring. Okay, that's likely the worst run on sentence I've ever written but I'm too lazy to go back and clean it up... I think you know what I was trying to say... bd

If you have a gas station you frequent with a "points" card get one. The ol' girl and I share one. One year we had enough points to get $50 of gift cards for the kiddos for Christmas. lot's of time its a free coffee or ?

Use one CC for everything except Costco. Approximately four or five times a year have enough points to get a $100.00 Home Depot gift card. When had the farm, all operating cost went on that card, really jumped up getting the gift cards.

www.lehmans.com/product/58-flat-cotton-wick-per-foot/I don't see the ones I ordered, but they are 7 ft rolls. Maybe if you put in 7ft for quantity, you will get the roll. There isn't a part number on the actual rolls I have.

After hunting about, I found this one that has 7/8" for a little less than a buck a foot - in 33' lengths.
Have to dig out the lamps to see exactly which size we need.

@pony , If you have different lanterns with different widths, order the smallest width. Then, you can use that one in all your lamps. You can't use ones that are too big in every lamp. What you found is what I have, I think. I have a few that I got once that are 7', but most of what I have are bigger. The 7' ones were from when I went to Lehman's.

I have a few extra wicks on hand but not nearly enough. All my lamps are still at the other house, need to move them over here. I started getting them down the other day (from on top of the kitchen cabinets) and found one I didn’t even remember buying...it’s the old glass that turns amethyst in the sun. Need to check my supply of lamp oil too, I know I need more of that!

@pony, wildhorseluvr, If you can afford it, grab at least one lamp that requires a mantle. You won't be sorry. They put out as much light as an electric light. We have two that require a mantle and countless of the others. We use them at least weekly here - this keeps the oil in rotation and keeps us in practice on using the mantle. As Ozarks Tom has said, the containers the oil comes in can degrade after storage. I will say, though, that they are good for minimum 2 years....so far. LOL (I keep them sitting in a tote just in case.) Best oil is the KleanHeat. No odor. Less expensive.

I've had an American Express card and a Visa for years. I switched almost 2 years ago to a new card Amex was offering. I get 6% off food totals!!! I got to deduct a total from my balances for the year of $623.00. I take the discount whenever I reach $25.00. Unless it's $25.00 or more I can't deduct it from my CC payment.
Then I changed the points on the Visa to 3% off things at the pharmacy. So I get a pretty good discount when paying for the meds I take and all the other pharmacy items I purchase.
These days I think having a credit card is important. If one has no credit history, it's impossible to get a loan or buy another car etc.
