I don't know if this works country wide, but I buy a year's worth of propane in May or June and pay at least 33% less than the prices in the fall and winter.
Same in this area, we topped off our tank last month, $1.76/gallon
Grrrrrr.......
I got 3 prices, 2.56, 2.36, and paid 1.99. I don't know how you get such better prices.

Speaking of fuel savings, my one tank is down to fumes. Normally I’d be refilling about now but since I’m hopefully selling soon, I’m going to let it stay empty. I already have a couple cords of wood I’ll be leaving here., not filling the oil tank as well..
When I bought my current home, part of the closing costs were to read the propane meter and I had to buy the propane left in the tank. I don't know if they do that everywhere. You should ask your realtor. It might remove the risk of filing the tank while the price is low.
Sounds like how they calculate blue book value on an ol' truck... It all depends on how much gas is in the tank..... bd

DEKE, At our closing they tried to charge us for the propane in the tank as an add-on to the closing costs. I asked them if the painter had left his lunch behind were they expecting me to pay for his baloney sandwich? Nope, I bought the property, not his lunch or whatever else happened to be left behind. As to why propane is cheaper here I can't say for certain, but this part of the country has a 15% lower cost of living than the rest of the country on average. We were living in St Louis when my wife had the opportunity to transfer here, it was like getting a raise.

There is no meter.

We just topped up our propane tank - $3.56/gallon. Thankfully this only has to run the heater in DH's shop so we don't use a bunch, but ouch!

I have 1/2 a tank of fuel. Typically August is when fuel oil specials are run here. I may try to top it off or let it go. I have a fair amount of trees down in the pasture that need pulled and cut up. Planning on utilizing the wood stove as much as possible with free wood over paying for fuel.
