My microwave works fine but it’s old enough I think I’d rather replace it than move it. It’s approx. 16x20” in size and 1,000 watts. Nothing that takes a computer geek to run it please. 😁 Mine usually last 15-20 yrs but since the newer electronics seem to be so crappy nowadays, I’m asking for recommendations.

You know what's crazy? Microwave technology peaked 15-20 years ago. The old microwaves are probably better than the new ones.
I don't have a clue about the best new ones...

I'd look for one with the best warranty.

You and Jolly, pretty much got it so all I can do is confirm it. Like a LOT of things nowadays, there really aren't any ones of superior quality that stand out from the rest. So my best advice is to buy the cheapest, simplest one you can find that has the basic features you want, for instance a turntable, defrost setting, "30 second button", "popcorn button" etc. You know what you use the most, so pick the one that has what you need and fits in the space you are putting it. All you can do after that is hope it lasts 5 or 10 years before you buy another one. For over 30 years I would tell people to buy Kenmore appliances and Craftsman tools because of the quality and they (Sears) stood behind their products if you ever DID need to use the warranty. Unfortunately about 10 years ago, that ship sailed - to China. Now consumers have to constantly be on guard for crap being sold to them. The worst part is almost everything you buy, the retailer washes their hands of it the second it's yours! What good is a warranty if I have to do all the work to get someone to fix the darn thing and it could take as long as 6 weeks to 6 months?! So go back and read my 1st paragraph. That way you'll risk the smallest loss and might even come out ahead.

That would make sense but I already have an air fryer. Any advantage to having the combination?

Thanks, farmrbrown. Most people I talk to that have bought a MW more recently say they don’t seem to last more than 3-4 yrs. 🙁

We have a Sharp Carousel at work. It’s a little big but it bakes a potato absolutely perfect! Doesn’t matter if it’s a white or sweet or how many you put in, you hit the potato button and it’s perfectly baked when the bell rings.

wildhorseluvr, the microwave that was my daughters is made by Avanti. My sister bought it for my girl, so I don’t know what the cost was. It works great, doesn’t take up much room and bakes potatoes too!

My current kitchen has an upper cabinet with a space for the MW. But I have a lot of counter space...or will once I finish clearing the clutter again. (The large kitchen counters seem to be the perfect place to sort stuff.) I just don’t need a huge MW for one person, don’t know how much counter space my next place will have or if there will be a designated shelf for a MW. So I’d prefer to find a new MW approx the same size as the one I have now.
