Battery in my 2012 expedition was dead. It didn't take it very long to charge up to 10 volts. When I hooked everything back up and went to start it, it wouldn't start, just made a pitiful noise of attempting to start and all the idiot lights on the dash lit up. This is a diehard 3 year battery with a date of 3/18 on the sticker. I have not driven this poor truck much, if at all, in the past year, but I did try to start it every 2 weeks and let it run for about 45 minutes. I'm pretty sure that the battery has given up the ghost but just want to be sure before going out and getting a new one

Ten volts want get it at all. If you are near a 120 volt power supply a cheap battery maintainer works wonders for keeping a battery fully charged. Low voltage and the computers on late model cars can lead the a disaster.

Agree with sawmilljim, have them one every piece of equipment that is started regularly. The battery in one of the big tractors is in excess of eight years old, still starts the tractor every time. Of course now that I have said that it will go upside down, but doesn’t owe me anything. Harbor freight has ones that I use often, but slowly replace them with something maybe a little better.

Ditto on the voltage. Even 12.0 volts is iffy to crank a vehicle. I know it says 12 volt battery but when your alternator is working right it puts out 13.8 to 14 volts so when you shut off the engine and check a good battery before you crank it I usually expect it to read at least 12.5 volts. If it's below 12.25v it's a 50/50 chance that it won't turn the starter.

Thank you for the info guys. I'll have DS check things out when he comes up. And I'll check out the battery maintainer. I know that at one time DH had some type of small solar thing that he had hooked into the truck to help keep the battery charged. No idea what became of it but I may find it one day as I go thru cleaning out the garage and basement.

I have found that Wal mart batteries usually comne in around $50 for the cheapies these days and most other places are at least double that.
Of course, we do not have to start engines in zero temps and so the cheapies are fine for us, and YMMV.
I just noticed our humidity is currently 3%! No wonder I have dry mouth!.....Joe
