Stopped at a couple places in town today for groceries, one is a scratch and dent type store (needed some extra spices) and the other was my usual grocery store which is the cheapest in town.
So the spices, normally mostly around .99, were mostly around 3.49. Didn’t buy as many as I wanted. At the grocery store I bought 3 or 4 small (1-2 small servings) pkgs of meat and fish (stew meat, etc, not steaks). Bought a variety of veggies despite the prices, but didn’t buy huge amounts of anything except 2 large butternut squash on sale for .99/lb. 1 bag of lettuce, 3 small onions, 4 small potatoes, 4 tomatoes, 8 oz. mushrooms, some peppers, celery, etc. Green peppers were $2 each, red/orange/yellow were $2.50. Cukes almost $1 each. Also bought a loaf of wheat bread, 16 oz cottage cheese and a half gallon of mixed fruit juice, plus a very small container of crab salad. No snacks, no milk, no condiments, no soda, no crackers, etc. Ended up with the equivalent of 3 not very full plastic bags of groceries…cost close to $100.
For the next few years shopping is not going to be fun.

We are blessed to live where we do because meat is still incredibly reasonably priced. I just got three thick New York strip steaks for $4.96 a pound. The three of them cost $12. What a bargain. I don’t even like New York strip but I will learn to. I cannot believe the prices on everything else. A bag of apples was $8 dollars. A 3 pound bag of apples. I was able to get Seven different wild harvest organic canned beans. Some tricolor, some black and some navy. &1.65 each was just what they go for most times.
Everything else was astronomical

I noticed things going up around july. We normally stock the pantry for winter and restock the next summer/fall. This year we have a weekly list on the refrigerator of the items we used that week and restock them. Not big pop drinkers in the house, but I like to have some Sprite or 7-up, Pepsi around. Sprite was $11.99 a 24 pack at the WM a few weeks ago!!!. Not long ago it was about $6.99. A trip to aldi was around $50, now figure $75-100.

I’m normally well stocked up on everything but with the upcoming move, I currently don’t have even the necessities at this house. Plus, am making a shift away from certain foods and trying to eat mostly fresh foods, which are expensive. Once we get settled somewhere I think I’ll be able to keep costs down better. Right now I’m not even keeping lists of what I’m out of, just what’s essential for the upcoming week. I rarely buy soda unless I eat out and it happens to come with the meal and then I stick with Sprite or similar. Normally I don’t keep soda at home but the last couple months I’ve kept some Sprite around to have a couple times a week. Pretty well broke myself of that bad habit the last couple weeks with the cool weather coming on. (Not pointing a finger at anyone else drinking soda, it’s just not something I should have more than once in awhile.)

................Fresh meat in W. Mt. , here in N. Tx has gone crazy . (2) Tbone or other prime cuts are priced around $30 to $40 . And , I don't see any packages discounted after the sell by date . So , I think they are grinding the non selling meats UP and turning them into Hamburger . A 16 oz. 93% pkg. is ~$5.93 . ................Maybe a national ranchers organization will buy a fleet of electric 18 wheelers and start selling their beef to large grocery chains and bypass the wholesalers ! , fordy

When I see something for a good price, I stock up a bit. I bought ten pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts yesterday for $1.67/pound.

Yesterday I stopped for milk and bread only at our Market. I passed by the meat aisle and for two chicken breasts they were between $6.00 & $8.00. Everything is going up. Eggs were $1.99 a dozen, any bread is close to $5.00 per loaf. Milk will soon be over %5.00 per gallon.
Just think and this is just the beginning!

With just myself to cook for now I barely go to the grocery store and that is usually to get milk. My freezer is full of chicken, plus I have a date next week for my 4 roosters and 3 old hens to get butchered ($2.75 to process heck yeah not going to turn that down) I have a 1/4 beef on order for pickup after Christmas $2.70 cut,wrap,froze....will split that with a close friend. Wednesday, around here, is usually the day to cruise through the grocery store looking for marked down meats. I don't bother with Sam's anymore their prices are high now. wildhorseluvr, do you have an Ollie's in your area? At mine yesterday I picked up some spices/herbs for 99 cents big jar.

I shop Ollie's, too. Just be careful with your quality on some items.

No Ollie’s around here.
I could shop cheaper and get better quality if I went to the city but it’s too much of a trip for me currently and I’ve also been trying to support our home town businesses even if higher priced.
I do think I’ll have my DDs start picking up produce for me when they go to the city though (at least one usually makes a trip there weekly) and hits Costco and Winco. Not only are the prices cheaper but the produce is definitely fresher.
