Gold has started to climb a bit, but not to the extent I'd have predicted. Apparently people still have faith in US T-bills, and think the stock market can't fail.

Fine silver is creeping right on up there near thirty bucks, which is a pretty healthy increase. The ads on TV keep raving about it matching it's all time high sometime in the near future, but they never mention that it's all time high was completely artificially achieved in a national con game. I think a fair number of folks went to prison over it, and if not they got in heap big trouble. Anyhow, it was a real circus when it was going on. I went into a PM dealer to sell some sterling scrap I had taken in trade for tools, and some guy had a sterling marked "loving cup", which is what they used to call those trophies he was trying to sell. It tested as sterling, all right, so the guy behind the counter had him sign a contract to sell them the silver in the thing for a set amount per troy oz, and he signed it. Next, the counterman took a hack saw and cut the bottom off of it and popped out a BIG OLD slug of lead from the base that had been put there to add weight and make the trophy seem like a bigger deal than it was. He told the seller "this is yours", and kinda smirked. The rest of the trophy seemed light as a feather! The guy took his little bit of money and grumped out the door. I have one of those trophies on a shelf in our china cabinet that I am sure is also loaded down with wheel weights or shotshell contents, but I will let whichever kid winds up with it find that out for themselves Silver was pretty kind to me over a lot of years, but only because I sold a LOT of stamping tools to turn it into jewelry to a LOT of silversmiths. Every time the price took a big and temporary jump, business went down near zero until it corrected, and I had to find other ways to make a living. THAT was when we all began saying "copper is the new silver", but hardly anybody believed us, ourselves included ....Joe
