Kinda looks like a job. Not boasting. But I split every stick by hand no extra help. Can't say I am in the best of health either.

I can't attest to the truth to this, but I've been told in the old days when farmers had a big rock in their field they'd surround it with firewood, getting it really hot, then throw a rope over it that had been soaked in cool water. The rock would split when the rope landed.

Some of them used to drill a row of holes across the rock with a star drill and hammer, then fill the holes with water before a big freeze and let the swelling ice do the job.
That video finally reminded me to go look up how those splitting wedges were made, and I found some "vintage" ones on line. Not much use to make any of them now, since se don't seem to be able to buy any fir or ponderosa pine logs any more, but they would be pretty easy to fashion from some of my cannon stock....on second thought, the sdcutting edge might need some harder steel than the cannons do.
Should be easy enough to find some 1045 shafting around, though. I doubt that there is anything illegal about them, since black powder can be bought across the counter....Joe

Ever see a 12 gage tractor starter?
Well, there she blows!
No, I won't be making any of those! The ATFE folks would surely come looking for me if I did! ....Joe
