The article Solargeek linked is interesting... I will have to go through it again to do a more complete digestion of the info there..
Talking with Sweetie about this.. She saying in the last 5-6 years she has had only one lid buckle.. It was a no seal incident and with a China, off brand or no name of some kind lid, as memory serves..

Talking with Sweetie about this.. She saying in the last 5-6 years she has had only one lid buckle.. It was a no seal incident and with a China, off brand or no name of some kind lid, as memory serves.. --- --- On another forum, some one asked ....Do canning lids expire ?.... I have to say no... But will relate this one personal experience... At a garage sale several years ago, we bought a whole canning kit.. Someone selling off grandmas life time supply of lids, jars, canners, and tools.. We bought the whole kit to include many full and partial boxes of new lids.. A couple boxes of lids had the sealing compound stick to the top of the next lid in the box.. When peeled apart breaking the seal compound making both lids unusable.. I don't remember details of name brand, no name or other about the lids..
With our experience of buying thrift store, garage sale lids and keeping lids long term I have to say this incident was likely due to poor storage.. Someone storing these in a hot and cold garage, shed, barn or the like..
My 5 cents of experience and opinion..
