Canning green beans this evening (1.5 pint jars). Using some WalMart brand lids, because that's what I could get at the time. I've got a jar that the lid has a little buckle in it after processing in the canner, but the lid did seal. Bad? Use right away? Treat it like the others? Oh, what's a canner to do?

If the seal still holds a day later I'd call it good.

I am on 3 serious canning groups and all of them unfortunately agree that even a slight buckle (even though the seal looks good) is not safe. They said to put it in your fridge and eat it soon. I’ve had that happen at least three times in the last year with Ball canning lids.
I now have quite a few of the blue rimmed, American made “Superb” lids and it seems I have less failures. I also watched a stupid video that said not to tighten them as I’ve been for “finger tight“, but they were wrong. I had to re-process those cans that I did their way. I’m going to stick with my way.

When it comes to canning, I don't take chances. If anything is even a little off I either re-process it or put it in the fridge for use in the near future.
About once a year we got through all our stored canned goods to check the seals and look for any color that shouldn't be there.

Depends if it was a good tasting apple. If one of those mealy ol' red delicious I'd have no problem tossing it LOL

I also would refrigerate and use first, soon....
However.... This has the potential to be an interesting experiment...... Out of first hand curiosity... First.. Put a label on the jar ...DO NOT EAT.. with the date canned.. Put it is your normal storage area, checking once a week for the first month.. Check once a month for the next year to see if it stays sealed.. Report you findings...
Even if it stays secure for a year for instance... I would NOT eat it......
Again... DISCARD PRODUCT.... Report your findings..

Sorry carry on. --- --- I guess I'm curious to how long it will STAY sealed, and if not at what point it comes unsealed.... This all compared to a non buckled lid..
Also.. The obvious question I didn't thank to ask at the very first is ....does the buckle go through the sealing area of the lid ??
I suspect the concern of refrigerating and using product right away is that the buckle does go through the sealing area of the lid..

I'm thinking the buckle would exert some strain on the lid staying sealed, almost like a slow-motion spring action.

Slow motion spring action on the lid... --- --- That is kinda, sorta my thoughts.. Just wondering what it will take if or when it fails...

There is also the chance of less rubber sealant touching the jar rim. The amount is already small. That would concern me.
