Snap beans have done well this year, since the deer have left them alone. We've put up 135 jars and I've given away four bushels. I'm tired of picking and snapping beans, yet I know I've got a few left to scrap in the morning... Did I say I'm tired of picking beans...
At least they'll be over and I should have the first of the field peas start coming in late in the week...My buddy has a pea sheller I can use. Certainly is one of God's gifts to mankind...

Man, and I thought we had the canned beans market cornered with our 87 quarts. The crazy thing? We've got about 18 plants in the buckets right now.

I've got 16 experimental (I haven't done this before) buckets of Rattlesnakes that are just starting to run up the poles. Those will be strictly for fresh eating. And giving away. I've got my peas stagger-planted. Six rows, two rows of purple hulls, then two weeks later planted a row of Dixie Lee and a row of cream zippers, then two weeks later another row of Dixie Lee and a row of zippers. Didn't want to overload myself at one time. Wife has a bum leg right now, so I'm doing all the picking. hence my lament about picking beans. And picking beans. And picking beans...
