When I was 16 I worked one summer in the Green Giant plant in LeSueur MN during "pea pack". When I applied they asked if I wanted to work in the factory or the field. I thought it was a trick question, working in the pea fields all day/night had absolutely no appeal for me. As it turned out, the local guys all wanted to build up their muscles and get tans, so there were only 6 males in the entire factory, along with about 40 high school and college girls. Yeah, one of the few times in my life I made the correct decision.
My job was keeping the filling machines stocked up on lids, so I had plenty of time to "fraternize".
One sight I'll never forget is the carp in the Minnesota River that ran past the plant. The peas that didn't float in the troughs were flushed out into the river, and you could literally walk across the backs of the carp at the discharge chute.

Ah, yankees. Y'all don't know the difference between field peas and sugar peas. ππ HEY I do not resemble that remark lol. I know that english peas were the ones we grew in the garden and had to hull by hand until the mennonites got the pea sheller. Sugar peas I can eat the hulls (and love them). Pink eye purple hulls are a field pea (I'm assuming - not a good thing to do) I'm not even sure if many field peas are grown around here. I bought the pink eyes a number of years ago in North Carolina. Found the pack last year and thought "what the heck" I planted them with ideas they were too old to sprout. Boy I got fooled.

Ah, yankees. Y'all don't know the difference between field peas and sugar peas. ππ My folks never grew anything but English peas, which I will eat fresh or frozen but wonβt touch canned. Blech. I do love sugar snap peas. The only field type peas I can remember eating are split peas and black-eyed peas. I like both and would guess Iβd like others. Pretty sure field peas can be grown here.

I'm glad you told me, although that thing doesn't look ANYTHING like my mom, grandma, or my brother and me around 6 years old (?).
