If he's not here on Monday, he'll be here by Friday. đ
Seriously...In my little corner of the world, we have to use a private garbage service. Too many people for parish-furnished dumpsters, too few people for a government service. As such, there are multiple companies trying to get your business, from a one guy operation with a pickup and a trailer to bigger companies.
We use some folks from in the community. Mom does the books, son runs the routes along with a couple of hired workers. Pickup has been erratic and behind times for the last few weeks...They are having trouble finding anybody to work with the son. Even after they went up on the starting salary, the guys that were hired didn't show up for work half the time and were fired.
I don't think the son is hard to work for, it's just that nobody wants to work. At least not for $15/hour to start. Or they work just long enough to make some dope money, since the little company doesn't drug test.
Tough to be in business nowadays...

Only one garbage company in my former town. Forced to pay for a recycle bin in addition to the trash bin, although they freely admitted they dumped everything together and nothing actually was recycled. $46/mo or haul it yourself to the landfill. Fast forward to current town. There is a huge garbage bin in the alley just outside the gate of my backyard fence. Split between 3 families, it still gives me 3x the capacity I had previously. Itâs $14.50/mo and they pick up TWICE a week. If you rented a big dumpster in my old town, it ended up costing you approx $225. If you kept it an extra day it cost you dearly. If you had it over the weekend, they wouldnât pick up the dumpster on Sunday but you paid the exorbitant fee for the extra day anyway. Here, I can get a dump truck for 3 days whenever I want at no charge. My old town charged extra for appliances, new townâŠfree. They also pick up lawn grass, weeds, tree trimmings, etc for free. Probably why most of the yards here are clean and well cared for.

I keep an old pickup running and gassed up so my neighbor will use it to haul trash to the dump for me, himself, most of the rest of the neighborhood.
A fairly good deal for everybody. Best part is there is no government telling us we HAVE to do it that way.
Voluntary cooperation beats the holy living crap out of socialism every single time.....Joe

Every Monday like clockwork our garbage guy comes by, sometimes with help, but most times not. He's got a 3/4 ton pickup that he built high sides on. I don't think I'd want to arm wrestle the guy, he throws a 30 pound bag over those sides like they were a tissue paper. Costs $25/month.
When we've been butchering chickens or rabbits and have a bag or two of offal we put an extra $20 out for him.
Nice guy, he hauls the church's trash off for free, and he's not even a member.

We have an extensive system of garbage and recycle options. Garbage goes to the close local transfer station.. Recycle is divided into cardboard, all papers, cans and other containers, and glass..
Cardboard goes to the paper mill where one processing line recycles it into rolls of what will eventually be cereal boxes and like containers.. We also have paid recycling.. Soda cans, bottles, plastic milk and drink bottles and the like.. It takes us a while to accumulate much, but our last trip we took 3 large garbage bags full for almost $50 in refund..

Soda cans, bottles, plastic milk and drink bottles and the like.. It takes us a while to accumulate much, but our last trip we took 3 large garbage bags full for almost $50 in refund.. Our recycling was much the same and they insisted it all be separated and recycled properly. Eventually they had no place to send the recycling to, so started dumping all the carefully sorted recyclables all together in the landfill. So I quit sorting or using my recycling bin, just dumped it all in the trash bin. Also called them and told them I wanted them to pick up their recycling bin and stop charging me for it. Nope, if you want garbage service, you have to keep both bins and get charged for both. đĄ So I paid half of eldest DDâs garbage bill and put my 1-2 bags of trash in her bin each week, and cancelled my garbage service altogether. Win-Win except for the trash service company.
