Weather is crazy here...yesterday was 76 during the day and 40 last night..they're calling for a frost by next week. If Farmers Almanac is usually 80% correct, I sure hope their forecast for one of the most severe cold and snowy winters than we've had in years, is wrong.
Last week it rained for a full 7 days, talk about depressing! Summertime we were in a drought, so now we got a lot of rain. I have crocus's up in three areas that I never planted them in for the past 5 years or so. They bloom first thing like they should in springtime and then pop up at the most weird times. One year I had them in February! Crazy!
Last year I had Lilacs blooming in May like always and then again in October...never had that one happen before!

Rained here maybe three inches. Nights 53-56° days 65-75. That rain made the garden grow. Doesn't matter itf I water it every day it prefers rain. I have tomato plants loaded with green tomatoes. Forecast is warmer than usual winter.

Why did the fuzzy caterpillar cross the road ??
For a few days we had a number of fuzzy, black with a brown band caterpillars seemingly crossing the driveway... Don't know where they came from, were going to, or would turn into someday..
This is something about old sayings that if they are particularly fuzzy, or the brown band is extra wide or other such sayings it is a prediction of a bad winter...
Other info ?? ??

Can’t tell you why woolly bears cross the road, but supposedly a wider brown/rust band = milder winter and a wider black band = harsh winter. Don’t think it’s ever been proven one way or the other.

Why would a caterpillar cross the road? Why, for the same reason a chicken would, to prove to an armadillo it can be done.

Still raining here...ducks are enjoying it. The garden...the drought resistant corn has grown three feet. Don't think much of that variety. It has very little corn. Our 53-65° is supposed to warm up to 65-80°.

Reports of snow flurries about 1 hour north of us, and areas in the U.P. are getting some good accumulation. I'm not liking this.

With the exception of lack of rain, we're having a fairly common October. Highs in the low 70's, lows in the upper 40's. Haven't seen many geese heading south yet. Our usual first frost is the end of October, early November, and that looks to be the forecast now.
Yesterday the guessed 80% of rain in the morning. Didn't get enough to even mess up the dust on the windshields.

Found an all brown wooly bear yesterday with just a slight hint of black on either end. If I can remember, for giggles, I'll chart on the calendar what, if any, the snow totals are thru the season. We've had some low temps, but I've had no frost at the house yet. Next week looks to be when frost will hit, mid to low 30's and then Wed. night 31

It looks like our first hard frost will hit Tuesday when they're guessing a low of 26. We'll clear the garden out this weekend, bringing the bigger green tomatoes in to ripen on the pool table, and start cutting up winter squash for canning.
When we bought our storm shelter we thought we'd be able to use it as a root cellar, but found the mice can squeeze through the flanged door and make a mess of whatever we had there. Really disappointing. I could put gaskets on the doors, but anything flexible the mice would just chew through.

2022-10-19... Environment Canada is predicting rain, flurries tonight and tomorrow.. Friends of mine north of Anchorage saying they had a light snow 3-4 days ago.. Many times we are 24-72 hours behind them weather wise...
The only chore I have left is to mount the snow blower to the tractor...
