Nice old tractor, but I was hoping it would be a John Deere...
Last parade I went to with horses, fire trucks, tractors and floats there was a picture perfect parade ready John Deere 830.. On of the last and the biggest 2 cylinder diesels they made...
There was a little sign on it that said what it was, and the sign also said ....Every parade needs a John Deere tractor, so why not a big one....
When I was a kid we had two 830s working around the country side..

When I was a kid we had two 830s working around the country side.. When I was a kid, the 4020 was the work horse, usually with a loader or dozer on it. Everybody had one for general use. The bigger ones were used out in the fields. Little tractors like the 8N and various Farmalls were used in the hay fields, pulling a rake, mowing, sweeping or scatter raking. The stacker tractor was generally medium sized.

Yup, I've got a '52 8N that's still strong as an ox. Tomorrow, since it's rained for two days, I'll take the box blade up to the gravel road and work it hard for about four hours. I've got a two-bottom plow that it pulls full deep without a cough. I'd imagine the motor was rebuilt at some point before I bought it 16 years ago, but that just points out how things were made back then - to be fixed, not replaced.

Ozarks Tom, put a Sherman shifter in it. You can make quick work of the road @ 23 MPH. LOL
