Start with some basic science. If you want a lot of light in a room you have a few choices that may or may not take you there. The fact that the light may be intense may be useful but that's not the only factor involved. You can get a light from arc welding that is so intense that it can blind you, but that does not mean that you can use it to read a newspaper 6 feet away from the source. I am not clear myself on all of the factors, but I am clear, indeed, on the results. One of the stupidest things I have witnessed in this life was folks at night emerging from the lincoln memorial and trying....to get a flash photograph of the reflecting pool at that long distance. Lots of light in that tiny little flash bulb, but at that distance they were just spreading it too thin to make any difference. Now, we have folks trying to use LED bulbs to light up whole rooms, making them ever hotter and whiter, but the dang rooms are still dark....too much area, not enough QUANTITY of light, is my diagnosis. They can make the bulb bright as they want simply because there is no filament to burn out, but a bulb that is twice as bright with only 1/10 the area simply does not equal a nice bright room, and that is happening at a time when most of the populace is of an age that needs brighter rooms, especially since they tend to house people who seem to be growing more dim by the day Am I going to have to just build my own fixtures, and if so should I go with incandescent ones or go all of the way back to gas lights?......Joe

I've replaced all our florescent shop light in the barns, sheds, garage with LED shop lights. Much brighter, and less likely to burn out or have power units go bad. I forget the acronym for them, but the ones that were supposed to replace incandescents are crap. The irony is they burn out faster than the incandescent bulbs, but cost just a whole lot more.
I believe Trump did away with the stupid regulation about light bulbs having to change over.

Keyless with LED garage light. Those things are "da bomb". I got them to put into the garage...until I realized there was no way to put one up - the light socket is sideways. So I put one up in the basement. I love it, plenty of light to see while looking out for blind cat poop when she misses the box lol.

I have one of these in my kitchen, they are ugly but when on it is too bright to look at any way so no one will notice how ugly this is. It lights the kitchen right up. Of course, available at Harbor Freight. Another shameless plug.
