When I resided our house we went for board & batten to give it a somewhat "rustic" look. Someone gifted us a steer skull, and I mounted it over the garage door. Not nearly as impressive as a longhorn, but fits well with the overall look.

Had a large set of longhorns (minus the carvings) in my house for many years. Most of my decor was Navaho blankets, an antique saddle, a few tanned hides, lariats, braided hackamores, old bits, etc. Don’t really have any of it left, which is a shame, much of it’d probably fetch a decent price now.

Like my wife would let me hang up a cow skull in the house. If we are doing that I want a fossil dinosaur skeleton.

One of the customers put a light in the skull...Looked kinda neat, shining through the eye sockets and the carvings.

I think your home is so beautiful Cabin Fever, the cow skull fits perfectly, I love it all. When we purchased our home in 1983 there was a Bucks head hanging on the wall in the garage. It is still there! It wouldn’t have a place in my home, but I made sure it was saved. There also was an ice boat that our neighbor, who sold us our home took to our Village Museum. He was a big winner in ice boating. Apparently there were ice boat races on the Villages Creek. Must have been fun times. It was his fathers boat from the 1800’s. I love old things much better than new anything these days. I still have the reupholstered rocker that my mom gave me when I moved out. It’s an old time “lazy boy” I had it reupholstered in an Indian design. It’s the first piece of new furniture my mother & father bought in the 1930’s. Yay for Susan who was happy with you putting up the cow skull!!!

I used to pick up the skulls out in the desert when I was harvesting Mesquite logs and then throw the skulls on a big ant hill to get them cleaned out. Sometimes I made it back on time, sometimes not. At that time in our lives, the $25.00 we could sell the skull for was a far bigger deal than having it on display. Same applies for all sorts of stuff we sold for peanuts back then. Art was for those who could afford it ....Joe
