In case anybody is interested, I just calculated the dost of building a 900 sf building, 12' high in front, 10' high in the rear, 4" concrete floor.
I did NOT include the costs of doors nor electrical, plumbing, such elements as concrete anchors, lighting, etc.
the metal paneling and support structure came to $5550.00
Ready nix concrete is $2600.00
I figure adding all I did not include will take the price up to about ten grand......around $10 per square FOOT!
10" purlin for rafters will allow for a 30x30 feet with no posts in the middle in the way. Makes some dreams possible.......Joe

Wind load can be overcome with angle bracing. If it's not part of the building package it's not that hard to add.

Only wind damage I have seen around here with the metal buildings or roofs was when people insisted on screwing the roofs down to the chip board instead of metal purlin or solid wood 2x4's.
The house we built in Rodeo had NO roof decking, just 2x4's about every 3 feet, lots of screws. Most of the roofs decked with chip board and screwed down to the chip board are someplace in the next county by now.
I was surprised by the price because I had contacted armstrong or somebody who gave me a price around $40K for the building, erected on my land, and the last one I built similar to it took me and one teenage daughter about 10 days or less to complete. Seemed like a HUGE gap to me.
IF you calculate the thickness of the paneling by the width and consider it all as angle bracing with a tensile strength of about 65000PSI, you will begin to see why those buildings so seldom fail. The FHA STRAPS that used to be required on the corners of wood structures up to 3 stories high were only sheep metal less than 2" wide. You can fail to get the benifit of all of that bracing by using too few screws so some of the panels can buckle instead of resisting, but even so, plenty of screws and plenty of concrete anchors have won every battle with wind I have seen.......Joe

Can you get an estimate on a premade building.?
