When they built the locks on the canal they needed a way for excess water to flow past the locks rather than pour over the top of them. The tunnel routed the water around the locks and was used as water power by businesses before draining out below the locks. That era is long past an the tunnel still exists so a boat tour was devised to transport tourist through the man-made cave. One died in the accident, and weight shift on the boat is being blamed for the capsizing of the boat. The water is between 3 and 6 feet deep depending on where you are in the tunnel with the one man being trapped under the boat. On the local news they showed people being loaded into ambulances. My daughter, who is fat triggered, said there appeared to be a couple of land whales aboard. One wonders if too many sat on one side of the boat. It has to be pretty embarrassing for whoever shifted their weight from one side to the other that caused the flat-bottomed boat to flip. Like they say Weight Gain can be a killer.

I figured that one got spooked or saw something interested and every one move to one side.

On a commercial airliner:
"Hey everybody, let's play a joke on the pilot. A half minute before we're about to land, everyone run to the back to the plane".

I know of a boat load of old geezers who got dumped in a very cold lake because one idiot reached over the side and hoisted a very heavy stringer full of fish up to look at them. One nearby lad tried to swim out to them, but could not stand the cold, but his brother made it out to them, dived under the boat and pulled up the anchor that had fallen to the bottom and was preventing them from paddling the boat ashore.
Only takes one jackass......Joe

Some people just have no common sense when it comes to boats, water, and in many cases much else. I was water skiing behind my boat with a neighbor driving when he decided to go up into a nice calm cove. Well, the cove was full of trot line floats. Yeah, if I'd have dumped there I'd never have come up.
Oh, I did get payback. Later that day he was skiing when I saw the water boiling with sand bass chasing shad to the surface. I stopped the boat and started pulling sand bass with every cast, while the shad and bass were hitting him upside the head and he was yelling to pull him out of there, which was ignored.
