Were y'all familiar with this? I just happened to see it on YT last night, had never heard of it before. Can also be done with eggplants. I didn't grow peppers this year but am sure gonna try it with my eggplants. www.epicgardening.com/overwintering-peppers/

Might try it. Of course, I’d probably have to find a place for the plants that is higher than 6 feet…

I've got an Ichiban eggplant plant in my wife's flower bed that's at least six feet tall and three feet wide.
Don't think I'm bringing that one inside.😄

I did it one year with a ghost pepper plant. It didn't thrive during the winter but it did survive. This year I plan to try it again. I have 6 hot peppers in fabric grow bags that I want to try and bring inside. I'm going to set up the kiddie pools in the basement and set the grow bags in those. I'll have to rig up grow lights for the various plants. I have a gas log set in the fireplace in the living room and it really did a number on the plants last year, thus the reasoning for trying the basement. Some plants will have to spend the winter in the little greenhouse. Ain't no way I can drag that blasted potted fig into the basement lol. DD and SiL set up a hydroponic system in their basement last year and grew some great romaine lettuce all winter long. That is another goal I'm going to try for this year.

Jolly, you're supposed to cut the plant back severely. There are several vids on YT showing how it's done. woolybear, the idea is to keep the plant alive, not to thrive through the winter. I'm about to run out the door for a drs appointment but I'll try to post some vids when I get back.

If we weren't moving, I would probably try that. Our pepper plants are still doing fairly well despite the shorter days and cooler temperatures.

I'm tempted to try it but I don't think they're gonna like six months in the basement. Maybe if I get a spare minute .

I saw this on YouTube this year too!!!!! I was like WHAAAAAT
So, this year, I will start those stinkers from seed, and come fall, I will dig 'em up and bring them in.
I grow super hots, and they take FOREVER too root down. By late September I have hundreds of green babies.....but the cold comes before they can fully fruit!
I am looking forward to see if overwintering will help them to set fruit sooner.

I figure they're bound to laurazone5. They'll be already established and can starting putting out blooms right away next year (as soon as the temp is right).

I was watching MIgardener on youtube the other day and he was talking about grow lights. You look for lights that are 15000 lumens and 6500k. He was taking the camera around home depot and showing the different types of lights, the cost and what lights would work well. I have one of those that I bought as a 2 set for the garage. One I put in the basement for lighting, the other I'm going to set up over at my plants. I want to pick up a couple more lights of that type and set up for my seedlings when I get them started. So far my habanero is still setting peppers and the peppers that are there are ripening. So maybe it is possible for the plants to thrive if the lighting is enough. I dug up and potted a couple of celery plants and those seem to be doing well in the basement also. Celery seems to like cooler weather and doesn't do well when it's really hot. So they should be happy in the basement where its in the 60's.

I love Luke: MIGardener.
I follow Roots and Refuge, and she went on and on about the Robeson Tomato that he sells the seeds. So I popped into his seed store.........2.00 for a pack of seeds. A healthy amount of seeds!!! I may have ordered a gazillion seeds lol.
Epic Gardener, Kevin, is in So.Cal, so not my zone at all, but he too, has great information.
I have learned more on YouTube in the last 2 years than I have in 30 years of trial and error.
