When Republicans agree with dems and pass legislation with the help of dems, there is no longer anyone who represents we the people. And there is no one to vote FOR. www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/04/19/mike-johnson-surrenders-democrats-seize-control-of-house-floor/Mike Johnson Surrenders: Democrats Seize Control of House Floor Democrats are in the minority no longer. In a stunning historical development on Friday, Democrats seized upon a Republican surrender to take control of the agenda of the House floor. An astonishing 165 Democrats voted for a rule from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to allow a $100 billion foreign aid supplemental package to the floor Saturday. The House will hold four votes on final passage for each of those packages, including a Ukraine funding bill with tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars. Minority party members rarely vote for a procedural rule to allow the majority party’s agenda to proceed through the House. Doing so in such numbers is wildly unprecedented. History was first made on Thursday, just before midnight, when, for the first time in recorded history — since the House began keeping records — the House Rules Committee relied on minority party votes to overcome objections from the majority and advance a rule bill to the House floor. The powerful House Rules Committee, known for generations as “the Speaker’s Committee” for the control the speaker of the House possesses over the committee and its reputation as a rubber stamp for the speaker’s agenda, sets the floor agenda for the House through what are known as rules. more at link

I didn’t know anything about the man but he seems to be exactly what we don’t want/need. ☹️ How on earth do we keep coming up with such losers? Is he a RINO or just inadequate? It seems like the Republican party is just done.
Matt Gaetz really pushed him as Speaker, which makes me wonder again about Gaetz. 🤷🏻♀️ Does he have motives, or is he just a poor judge of people?

www.zerohedge.com/political/house-passes-95-billion-aid-package-ukraine-israel-and-taiwan-not-us-borderHouse Passes $95 Billion Aid Package For Ukraine, Israel And Taiwan - But Not US Border The House on Saturday passed a set of foreign aid bills that would send $61 billion to Ukraine, $26 billion to Israel, and $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific region. In total, the foreign assistance package totals $95 billion - which only passed after Speaker Mike Johnson cut a deal with Democrats in order to force it through by a vote of 311 to 112. The Senate is expected to pass the package, which was negotiated in conjunction with the White House, marking a victory against conservative lawmakers who insisted on protecting the US border before sending money abroad to protect those of other countries. “We cannot be afraid of our shadows. We must be strong. We have to do what’s right,” House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican, said. Democrats and some Republicans waved Ukrainian flags during the vote, a rare moment of bipartisanship in a bitterly and narrowly divided House. “Traditional House Republicans led by Speaker Mike Johnson have risen to the occasion,” House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said. “We have a responsibility to push back against authoritarianism.” -Bloomberg Earlier in the day, the House passed an $8 billion aid package aimed at countering Chinese aggression towards Taiwan, as well as a bill that would force Chinese-controlled ByteDance Ltd to divest from TikTok or face a US ban. The bill also allows for the confiscation of Russian dollar assets in order to help fund more assistance to Ukraine. more at link *May they all be stricken with the clap.

I'm sort of glad they didn't vote any money for the border. What would Biden and Mayorkas done with it, give more Visa debit cards to more illegals? They sure wouldn't put a penny towards building a wall, or even pretend to enforce our already in place immigration laws. Any money voted for them to spend would have been flushing it down the DC toilet.
I'm a supporter of Ukraine, as y'all surely know, but looking at the whole war from a pragmatic viewpoint it's obvious Russia is willing to expend as many Russian lives as necessary to overcome Ukraine's fierce defenses. Looking back through hundreds of years of history, Russia's war tactic has always been one of attrition, no matter the cost in Russian lives. Putin isn't winning any support as the body bags come home, and he might just be satisfied, for now, with claiming victory in a settlement giving him the land they currently occupy. But, as far as I can tell, there are no serious negotiations going on, but plenty of bluster from Europe and NATO vowing to fight to the last Ukrainian. Sending billions more for an eventual lost cause is foolish from every perspective.
Israel is a different matter altogether. Obama backstabbed them at every opportunity, and Biden is doing the same. $26 billion is a lot of money, but the overall goal of diminishing or eliminating Iran's terrorist theocracy should be reasonably seen as in our own national security interest. What I'd rather see than a "gift" would be a structured loan. Every year we send billions in "foreign aid" to countries that hate us, Pakistan/Turkey/even China. How about we cut back or eliminate those foolish expenditures and help our only real friend in the ME?

I have to wonder who Johnson is working for. Apparently Dems and RINOs, he certainly isn’t doing anything for us. Apparently doesn’t keep his word. “Christian. Family man. Far right conservative.” Yeah, right. 🙄
We have no voice in this country anymore.
Trump is trying but they’ll stop at nothing to take him out. I read an article last night, not sure I could find it again, where some Dem is trying to pass a law to take away Trump’s Secret Service protection. Something along the lines of he doesn’t deserve any special privileges. If he loses in court and they manage to jail him, he’ll have zero protection. 🤬 These are evil, evil people.

theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2024/04/19/uniparty-spotlight-more-democrats-vote-for-johnson-foreign-aid-bill-than-republicans/#more-260207UniParty Spotlight – More Democrats Vote for Johnson Foreign Aid Bill Than Republicans 165 Democrats voted for a foreign aid package brought to the floor by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson. The measure includes $26 billion more for Israel, $61 billion more for Ukraine and around $10 billion for Taiwan. 151 Republicans voted to support the aid bill. There is almost $100 billion in total foreign aid and approximately $0 to secure the southern U.S. border. This is a “Republican” bill, that passed with Democrats, not Republicans. The ideological UniParty is very real in Washington DC, and this vote was entirely against the wishes of most Americans. We are in an abusive relationship with our government. There really is no other way to look at it. WASHINGTON DC – […] underscoring deep intraparty frustrations with Johnson’s strategy, 55 Republicans voted against advancing the package — a once unheard-of GOP rebellion that has grown more common given their single-digit margin. Normally that would be enough to scuttle Johnson’s plan, but 165 Democrats voted to bring up the bills. It’s the first time they’ve done so during Johnson’s speakership — an alliance that is likely to fuel calls from his most vocal critics to strip him of his gavel. The House is now slated to vote on the bills early Saturday afternoon, and Johnson will once again need substantial help from Democrats to get them over to the Senate. Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Friday that he plans to support the package, while Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) declined to state his position when asked. “I’m pleased that we were able to come to a bipartisan agreement,” said House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.). He added: “It’s working out the way the speaker wanted it to, which is that every member is free to vote their conscience … in a way they usually aren’t.” The House structured the package so as to ease its consideration in the Senate, requiring less time and procedural votes to pass the upper chamber. While senators are scheduled to be out of Washington next week, there’s ongoing discussion about canceling that recess to take up the House plan if it passes. (read more) It’s really not just Mike Johnson, the root of the issue is much deeper than just corrupt and detached Republican leadership. The issue extends to every aspect of life and politics in Washington DC. Every member is participating in a process to give money to other countries, regardless of whether the American voter wants that to happen or not. more at link *My beef is that there are AMERICANS who need some help these days. Why are we being forced to send our hard earned money to people in Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and anywhere else they can think to send it?

theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2024/04/23/go-deep-speaker-johnson-changed-mind-on-fisa-deep-state-after-lobbying-from-pompeo-and-intelligence-community/GO DEEP – Speaker Johnson Changed Mind on FISA/Deep State after Lobbying from Pompeo and Intelligence Community This is more than a little interesting and aligns with my own research and discussions. House Speaker Mike Johnson was lobbied by former CIA Director Mike Pompeo and current officials from the CIA, DNI and Intelligence Community. This effort, and his son starting at the Naval Academy, is what changed Johnson’s mind about allowing the U.S. intelligence community to have his full support in the IC war against the American people. The story is shared by CNN, the official outlet for perspectives and viewpoints held by the U.S. State Dept (CIA), so keep the narrative origination in mind. Here are the key points as written in the article: WASHINGTON – […] The speaker’s embrace of Ukraine aid represents a remarkable evolution for Johnson, who voted against funding for the country as a rank-and-file member. But almost immediately after securing the speaker’s gavel, sources say he began to hear directly from critical Republican national security voices – including Donald Trump’s former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, who impressed upon him the urgent need to approve assistance for Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion. In March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky lobbied the speaker directly. Within minutes of the House approving a new military aid package for Ukraine on Saturday, Zelensky offered his thanks to US lawmakers, and in particular to Johnson for his decision that “keeps history on the right track.” And more recently, Johnson received a key intelligence briefing from CIA Director Bill Burns, who painted a picture of the dire situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and the global consequences of inaction, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The briefing left a lasting impression, and Johnson became increasingly convinced the fate of Western democracy was on his shoulders, sources close to him said. Another factor that sources say weighed heavily on his decision-making: Johnson’s oldest son was recently accepted into the Naval Academy. “To put it bluntly, I would rather send bullets to Ukraine than American boys. My son is going to begin in the Naval Academy this fall. This is a live-fire exercise for me as it is so many American families,” Johnson told reporters. sunny225, very sorry to say that NONE of them can come down with any social disease until and unless somebody can inject them with massive doses of testosterone. Pretty sure that the whole batch of them sit around in the evening watching soap operas with the missus and wiping away one another's tears. Diogenes was the early Greek philosopher who walked around shining a lantern in the faces of his countrymen "looking for an honest man"....but I think he could search the entire district of columbia with a spotlight without finding a real man anywhere, honest or not. I betcha even an old busted up fart like me could walk up and demand their lunch money and walk away with it if the secret service did not interfere. My contempt is without limits and we should spit skoal juice on their street banners, even those of us who do not chew.....Joe

thepostmillennial.com/revealed-speaker-johnson-apologized-to-joe-biden-for-rolling-his-eyes-at-sotu?utm_campaign=64487REVEALED: Speaker Johnson APOLOGIZED to Joe Biden for rolling his eyes at SOTU When Nancy Pelosi ripped up Trump’s SOTU speech, she was considered a hero by Democrats. It has been revealed that Hosue Speaker Mike Johnson apologized to Joe Biden in March following the State of the Union address for "the eye-roll memes that went around the world." According to RealClearPolitics, Johnson pulled Biden aside at the Friends of Ireland luncheon to "apologize for the eye-roll memes that went around the world." Biden reportedly laughed and told Johnson, "I’m just grateful you didn’t rip my speech up," referring to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s actions during a Trump State of the Union address. Johnson replied, "Well, Mr. President, don't think my friends back home didn't want me to light it on fire." At the conclusion of Trump’s last State of the Union address in February 2020, Pelsoi, seated behind Trump, ripped up the printed pages of his speech. The move was celebrated by Democrats, with one source close to Pelosi telling CNN at the time that the move wasn’t planned, but was sparked by anger at his address. more at link

sunny225, I have mixed feelings about this. As Christians, I believe we’re to show respect and if we fail to do so, we should apologize for our own wrongdoing EVEN IF the other person was wrong or out of line. In that respect, I have to admire Johnson for apologizing. Pelosi was so disgusting when she ripped up Trump’s SOTU speech…I don’t think I’ll ever forget that as long as I live. She not only showed disrespect for Trump but for the office he holds. We should hold ourselves to a higher standard. So Johnson gets a 👍🏻 from me in this particular instance. That said, if I’d been there my eyes probably would’ve fallen out of my head from constant rolling. I have a friend who’s a retired Marine officer and he’s chewed my butt more than once for rolling my eyes. I tell him to just be glad I’m not rolling my eyes at him. 😁
