Some of the videos I've seen indicate they DID drop anchor but it didn't do what they hoped it would do. Ok, apparently the report I heard this morning was wrong (or it's been changed). At that time they said 30 minutes before it hid the bridge. Now I see it was 6 minutes or less. www.wbaltv.com/article/baltimore-key-bridge-collapse-second-by-second-breakdown/60309992So yes, in THAT case, no matter what they did there wasn't enough time, all they could count on was luck - good or bad.

Maybe I'm giving too much credit to the IQ of terrorists, but I'm skeptical that they would choose after midnight on a Monday with a pothole crew working rather than rush hour on a Friday. Just sayin.

Disclaimer: I truly think it was an accident, but this popped up on Twitter.

farmgirl, I also believe this one was an accident. This time. It’s a good warning to stock up what you can. Sooner or later there will be events, and even if not in our own neck of the woods, chances are we’ll be affected.

Glenn Beck today, you know, that conspiracy nut that said Fauci was a fraud, had an interesting question regarding this tragedy. He brought up the Navy ship a few years ago near Japan whose computer system was hacked, causing it to turn in two circles before going into the side of an oil tanker.
The ship in this incident was first floated in 2015, made in Korea, and all its controls are computer controlled. Not too dissimilar of the ship that jammed the Suez canal a couple years ago.
If the computer on this ship was indeed hacked, the forensic analysis of it's computer system would tell the tale, but we'd never hear about it.
That bridge, and the I-95 freeway it carried, are vital parts of our infrastructure. I-95 is a main artery in the East Coast, and any hazardous materials carried by truck will have to be re-routed hundreds of miles as they can't go through tunnels, not to mention the everyday truck deliveries to the area.
We'll be spending billions, in a union dominated area, clearing away the structure, then rebuilding the bridge. Look for the "Grand re-Opening" somewhere around 2040.

Sooner or later there will be events, and even if not in our own neck of the woods, chances are we’ll be affected. You/we had better be stocked up all the time. This is going to cause major shortages and upheaval in the supply lines. The objective wasn't to KILL a lot of people. The objective was to destroy the bridge and a major port for a very long time.

farmgirl, the guy makes some good points…as does Ozarks Tom. While I think this one “may” have been an accident, it wouldn’t take much to convince me it wasn’t either. My trust in anything our government or media tells us is exactly zero. Less than that, actually. 🤣 sunny225, I’m pretty sure members here are at a point where stocking up actually means “topping off”….I very much doubt anyone here has only enough food for the next meal or two. 😁 Personally, I get frustrated lately as I can’t possibly cover all the bases, don’t have enough knowledge or skills in many areas, and even if I did I’m physically unable to do much now. My DH died, DSil is gone, another DSil or two are in poor health, DGD and her family are nearly 2k miles away…sometimes prepping seems pointless.

BREAKING NOW: ⚠️ Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis, MD south of The Francis Scott Key Bridge that COLLAPSED after bring hit by a container ship has been SHUT DOWN...
DEVELOPING..
As of now the bridge is CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC due to weather conditions or "SAFETY" concerns..
Is this a strange coincidence or something much much more?

I think it was a freak accident like the 35-W bridge in Minnesota. Sea salt spray over the years probably helped it come down. In the 70's we didn't have big container ships like the one that took the bridge out, going under it. There is probably more Allisions with bridges (small and large craft than we know about) We just hear about the major ones.
I'm no engineer but the support pillar designed were for a top load not a side impact from a ship that size. And not for a 1973-1974 engineering of that time it was put on the paper.
Once the bridge mess is clear ship traffic can go thru, not affecting China goods coming in. The biggest thing is will hurt is the everyday guy that needed to cross that bridge to get to work.

wildhorseluvr, I'm distressed about your situation. Your hard work is not pointless IMHO. It means something to you, your dogs, your family and you are an inspiration to so many of us. <hugs> As to the bridge - here's my problem. I no longer trust 'the experts' to be honest. Too many 'conspiracy theorists' have been proven right, years later. I want to believe this was a dreadful accident but I'm afraid we will never know/accept the truth because there is no trust left.
