Florida Doing The Right Thing - Again

We have another thread here somewhere about squatters and the ridiculous laws and court systems that basically allow squatters to steal a home.  Florida, and this sheriff have the right answer, lock-em-up.

A Florida sheriff on Monday boasted during a Fox News appearance about giving squatters a “one-way ride” to the local jail as concerns about squatting have grown nationwide.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida signed legislation to criminalize squatting on Wednesday after a high-profile incident in New York in which a woman who discovered squatters in her late mother’s luxury apartment was allegedly killed by them. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told “Fox and Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones that his deputies were already addressing the issue.

Absolutely love Sheriff Grady Judd. 👍🏻 When criminals get a long sentence or get themselves shot or killed while committing a crime, he’s like, “Oh well, that’s what happens when you commit crimes.” Or “That’s one guy who won’t be committing any more assaults.” 

Besides the trespassing/burglary charges, you’d think they could throw more charges at them over the phony contracts and forged signatures used in the commission of crimes. Add on damages to the property and loss of rental income or your ability to live in your own home…it should be enough to lock them up for a long while. 

I’m of the opinion that restitution is a necessary part of paying your debt to society, and bringing back the old chain gangs is not necessary a bad idea.

I look at it this way: If they want to live rent-free, Sheriff Judd will gladly oblige them, food included.

Yeah, but they shouldn’t get to live rent free anywhere. As a tax paying citizen, I’m getting tired of supporting these career criminals along with their 15 kids from 15 different baby mamas. They can just as well be out cutting/hauling firewood for the elderly, digging ditches and cleaning up trash to pay for their room and board. Make it a little less pleasant for them to live off the tax payer after committing crimes.
