Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III said two female deputies went to a home on Flamingo Avenue to serve a elderly couple with an eviction notice. One of those deputies had been working with the couple for a few weeks to find them somewhere safe to stay once the eviction notice would be served. “They were going to an extended stay facility [Monday] and an Uber was waiting out front to take them to that location as our deputies were tending to the elderly woman who has Parkinson’s disease,” said Sheriff Johnson III. Body camera shows as deputies were attempting to escort 82-year-old Anthony Goulding’s wife out of the home, Goulding began pouring gasoline on the carpet outside of a back bedroom. “Hey! What are you doing?,” asked one Oklahoma County deputy. more at link *I didn't see WHY they were being evicted anywhere.

That's so sad. Being evicted, probably from a home they've lived in a long time, with a sick wife, was probably just overwhelming for the guy.

There are prob'ly a ton of lessons to take from that which we will never know about, but the one that comes home to me is that I always swore I would not EVER be living in somebody else's house when I got old and useless.
I have not had a mortgage in over a decade, and never will again. LAST thing a person of that age needs is to be at ANYBODY'S mercy, and that means they need to pay off the house early and not ever encumber it again.....Joe

No one really owns their home, unless the state does not collect property taxes.
We are taxed to death in this country. You pay income tax on the money you make and pay income tax for a second time on YOUR Social Security checks. We pay tax on things we buy and then again on stuff we resell. Tax,Tax,Tax.................

No doubt true, fixitguy, but you DO choose where you live. Last place we lived, we paid about $500 per year on 50 acres. About #10 per acre. Property taxes do not HAVE to be an extreme hardship......Joe

There are a lot of 'well-meaning' busybodies who determine on their own that people aren't capable of taking care of themselves. So they decide to "help" these people by putting them in a home or some such so they can be 'cared' for. They get the home condemned & move the people out of their home. We haven't had a mortgage on a home since 2009 & never will again. They will play hell getting me out of this one.

A friend's Grandmother lived near us in NM and some of the family was plotting to tuck her away somewhere. She told them if they did not leave her alone she would just head out into the desert by herself without food or water and walk until she died.
Of course, none of them believed she would do that....but they were dead wrong. Took weeks to find what was left of her, which was not much.
Good idea to LISTEN when old folks speak......Joe

One more thing about your home. IF you list one of your kids as executor of your estate, it means you totally trust them, and if you do, you can put them on your deed "with right of survivorship"....
That means your p0roperty will pass to them upon your death without probate. Simple matter of paperwork, and if there needs to be a split with other heirs it can take place afterwords.
Same thing with bank accounts.....BUT you gotta have ultimate trust to handle it that way......Joe

Too bad I don't trust any of my kids.... I hope you’re joking… Nope, I'm not. One is in prison for the next 40 years. The other is married to a grifter, a con-man, a liar and a thief, a greedy selfish POS, who is also an abusive husband. She has left him twice and moved in here. She has gone back to him twice after saying she wanted nothing to do with him ever again. No, I don't trust either one of them and won't ever again.
