Thomas Massie @repthomasmassie USDA is mandating Electronic ID tags in cattle without congressional authorization. This is the beginning of the end of independent cattlemen, but @farmbureau and @beefusa support it because they are the foxes watching the hen house. I tagged _them_. Let’s see if they respond.
Rep. Harriet Hageman @rephageman EID eartags aren’t about disease prevention – we already do that better than any country in the world. It’s about gov’t control and furthering the vertical integration of our food supply

Ummmmm....(Rancher Bob) "Looks like my cows got together and gnawed each others' ears a little bit after we put them tags in. Try looking thru those BS patties out around my pasture a tell me if you found anything." LMAO

Just another example of bureaucrats writing laws Congress never intended, but since the original law gave authority to the "agency", the "agency" is going well beyond anything Congress intended.
With any luck at all the current Supreme Court will put an end to this idiocy in their decision on the Chevron Defference this session. The Constitution clearly says Congress will pass laws, it say nothing about delegating their authority to others.

I remember years ago when "they" sent out forms about how many animal units you had on your farm. How many cows, chickens, goats, sheep, etc. and how you were only allowed so many units - it was a strange system, you should only have this many units of critters. Every time they sent a form I dropped it into the circular file, after so long they finally gave up and stopped sending the forms.

Before they started sending out those forms, they did a phone survey. That is the only time the government ever asked my opinion on anything. They got what was probably a 45 minute answer. For some reason, I’ve never received another phone survey since.

I don't see a lot of cooperation from those who own cattle in our area.

Government can be harsh. I remember many years ago…. A man with a fine herd of Registered Black Angus. There was an edit that all herds must be bang tested. He said no for a very good reason. They took the entire herd from because he said no.
