This bugger seems to be very destructive - even malicious. He doesn't just knock over feeders, tear them open and clean them out. He bends the legs 180 degrees and drags the feeders to water and tosses them in.

A bear is tearing my place up! I cannot keep a deer feeder going any longer. He tears them up, rips hinges off, punches holes in them with his teeth, bends the legs like they are rubber, eats the deer chow and then throws the feeder into my pond! Last trip up (about a month ago) I had 4 feeders hit. Two ended up in two different ponds. One of them he dragged 150 yards through the woods to toss it in the drink. Just waiting for him to hit the cabin. That's going to be really ugly. What the bear doesn't mess up, the pack rats, owls, possum, coon and mice will. I think I heard he has a bounty on his head. Maybe I just dreamed that.... ............There is a very simple way to "Bear proof" all exterior windows and doors.................simply take a 2x12 , and drive lots of 16 penny nails completely through the boards and set them in front of your doors and windows ! No bear can stand on nails while trying to enter your abode . , fordy

Probably just driven uphill because of all the flooding.

One of my colleagues has some land down in Ozark County, and some group is doing a study on the wild bears there. I have seen pictures and read reports. Yes, there are indeed MANY bears in the Ozarks. There are remnants of a bear on our land. Former owners had bee hives. Bears destroyed them. Seen my first Bear in Ozark County back in the '80's. rebelman

We have them around at the higher elevations but have never seen one this low. Had a lot of them in Miami NM, and they would come right into town and climb a tree. One lady called a friend of mine who was a hunting guide on Turner's ranch near Raton and told him she had a bear up a tree in the yard and demanded he come shoot it, so he took his 44 snubby and beat it over there....... Turned out to be a porcupine.....Joe

Saw the one that got hit out by West Gate Trailers in Grove. Not too big, but if there's a little one, there are bigger ones around.
A friend living between Ava and Branson has a lot of bear dens on her land. The people with electronic tags and such come out to tag the bears in the Winter.

Had a woman in Arkansas have bunch of Bears around her place. I asked her if I could kill one? No they are my Babies. Wasn't long one got hold of her Dog leaving her with a $600 Vet Bill. She calls me wanting to know if I would shoot one of those Bears? I told her no she had her chance.

Shamelessly plagiarized from the June Readers Digest:
A park ranger in Montana was giving a talk to some hikers. "Brown bears are generally not dangerous, and will avoid humans if they can, so we suggest putting little bells on your packs. Now, grizzly bears are definitely dangerous, so if you see grizzly bear scat, turn around." One of the hikers asked "How do we tell the difference between brown bear scat and grizzly bear scat?" To which the ranger answered "The grizzly bear scat will have little bells in it."

............Why , would anyone with any sense go camping\hiking without packing atleast a 9mm auto with about 17 shots ? Granted a 9mm won't kill a grizz with one shot , but 5 or 6 in multiple locations should slow a bear down . , fordy
