Was yesterday. Actually the front door got it. Its often windy here and sometimes the wind gets behind the front door and slams it shut. Mr Quail was there for the event. He got hit in the head fatally. I've never had that happen before, and decided no good reason to waste the bird, and I cleaned and cooked it. Not bad. Amazingly easy to skin. Almost did it by itself. Im blessed with an abundance of quail. Gambel mostly. Doves too. The whole area is. There's probably 50 +/- at any given time in the yard. I've been wanting to try quail for a long time. I think quail is going to be on the menu much more often

pearl b, If you have an abundance of doves, dove breast is wonderful, and easy to harvest. Pop it's head off, then put your thumb under its breast bone where it comes to a point, dig your thumb in firmly, and pry the breast out. It'll come out already skinned and ready for breading and the frying pan.

Oh, but the best way to do dove breast is to gently flatten it, place a curl of butter and some scallions inside, ROLL UP, lightly bread, refrigerate for an hour or two, then fry in some more butter mixed with coconut or olive oil.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............
