Alright people. I need your best ideas. I have NEVER been able to trap a raccoon in one of those havahart things. Tried many many times and got possums, neighbor cats, etc. Raccoon always gets all the bait without going in or tripping or both. I have a raccoon getting in my trash, and will eventually find my chickens. No coop is 100% unbreakable, and besides, I don't want him here even if I didn't have chickens. He eats dinner on my porch. Runs off with a to-go meal in his mouth and leaves baggies and other stuff at the other end of my house. I'm wondering about a snare set up but cannot figure out how to do that without endangering someone's cat. What about a bunch of those sticky things for large rats? Would tanglefoot on a bunch of stuff in the trash can be enough to stick to him? Anything? I am like the ultimate cartoon of the unsuccessful coyote trying to nail this booger. He must die! I'm attempting to insert some video from a game cam here and see if it works. Nawp. It said file too big. I'm not putting it on youtube, so I guess you can't see him. If anyone knows how I can attach a vid from my computer, let me know.

Hallelujah mz thank you. I have not seen one of those and just ordered one, should have it Thursday. I'm desperate. A lot of googling on any other means just doesn't turn up anything useful. The cage traps are crap for coons. Great for possums, but not coons. I will have to hope for neighbor cats staying away and will do what I can to avoid them. I have seen a few cats stroll through on my camera, and when I come home in the dark. They are usually on the opposite side of the house. I think they like to sit and watch for mice and chipmunks.

We use live traps and bait them with marshmallows. It's like crack for racoons & possums.

Put a can of cat food in the bottom of a 55 gallon drum, place a 2x6 against it for a ramp. Don't worry about trapping cats, they can jump out. Coons don't jump well. You'll find a really ticked off coon in the morning. I know a guy who lived in a township that wouldn't allow shooting, so he cut a small hole in a drum lid and piped in exhaust from his truck. Happy hunting!

DH baits this with a marshmallow. We did have one that needed a little lubricating after a time. Best of luck.

Uncracked eggs work for bait also.

Well, I told y'all I'm like a cartoon disaster. I know this thing was in my trash this past Wednesday, Thursday night. Set the trap up Friday night with marshmallows. Nothin Nothin Friday, Saturday, Sunday (last night). It's like he has a subscription to "Raccoon Daily News" and the headlines read "Avoid Address X Due to Trap Added Today!" I know that he hasn't come and bypassed the trap because I added a sack of trash Saturday, and it has not been messed with. It did cross my mind that maybe a neighbor of mine that i'm not aware of has been on the same mission and got him. But I doubt it. Still holding out hope for a few more days.

mzgarden, Finally got him! I can't believe it, but he did not visit for 6 straight nights after I put out the trap. But last night, kaboom. Thanks for the recommendation.
