This is Boone, a small Munsterlander. My last dog was also a versatile, a German Wirehair, and a really wonderful companion, the best dog I ever owned. Boone has really good blood lines and is showing promise at eight weeks. I don't pick him up for another four weeks and I can hardly wait. Save

That's pure instinct! Are you going to have him professionally trained or do it yourself?
Let me tell you about a "union" bird dog I had years ago. A friend, who had many years of experience quail hunting with his dogs, but didn't have a dog any longer due to some health problems, longed to hunt again. I had another friend who had several bird dogs that he entered in field trials, so, I did some trading with him for an older English Setter names Doc. Doc had several CH notes behind his name in the records, in other words, he was a champion. The barter was worth around $1000 each way.
We took him out to a field, and he was a literal joy to watch. Pure artistry in action. Then, after 20 minutes we went over and laid down in the shade of a tree. No coaxing or commands could budge him. Thinking he was old, about 7 years, we gave him a while to rest. Nope. Turns out his field trials lasted 20 minutes, so when he'd put his time in he punched out. Totally useless in a real hunt.
On the upside, my friend mistakenly put Doc in his back yard with his female Doberman Pinscher, so I got one of my best dogs ever - but not a hunter.

He is going to get four weeks initial training with a pro, then we will see where he is. My experience is that a good versatile will almost train itself if you can get it on enough birds. I intend to put him through the NAVHDA testing so I may get him touched up a little prior to the testing. I would like to do the training myself but I want to be fair to the dog and I may not have good enough skills. The mother maxed NAVHDA and the father scored very high on the German breed testing.

Nice looking pup. I have judged only a couple munsterlanders in NSTRA but I enjoyed watching each one. It's great to watch a breed that is not typically owned here. Have fun!
