We've had these in the pantry-twice-got rid of 'em by clearing everything out & wiping it down w/orange oil solution. Now we have 'em flying all over, mostly across the tv at nite but see them hanging from the ceiling, behind pictures on the wall, etc. We keep our closet door shut even when going in after clothes, so afraid they'll infest clothing. Someone said moth balls but they are so carcenegenic... Anyone dealt w/them effectively?

OhNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. One could make a million bucks videoing me going after A MOTH. Then Hubby joins in..... Ya. My entire upstairs is full with fiber, yarn, fabric, finished natural fiber items...ACK! And You all have seen my pantry. You will have to look at all your stored goods and see whats in them,no bugs, freeze it. Just until you clean and check everything, freezing will stop any possible trouble. Then I put down cotton balls with peppermint oil on them. I also cut bunches of herbs, mostly mints and hang in the pantry. Upstairs where my unspun fibers are I lined a walkin closit with cedar particle board(real thin easy stuff). And I have a bottle of cedar oil I spray arround the closit door. Also have bunches of pouches with Lavender buds and a basket full I cut from the garden, leaves and all. Wish you all the luck, ackkkkkkkk

When you cleaned out your pantry, did you make sure to wipe down everything before putting it back? I've dealt with this a few times, and I would open boxes on both ends (if the inner bag is unopened you can probably save the contents but you might have to throw the box away) and wipe down the tops and bottoms of all the cans (they like the ridges on the lids). Check the contents of even your most secure containers. I've had them get into my Tupperware no problem. Sometimes they even manage to get up under the lids on jars. So frustrating.
I can sympathize with your situation. Moths are such a pain to deal with. Really time consuming.
Hope you get rid of them!

Glad I stumbled on this thread. We've been battling moths, and they're about to drive me stark barking mad.
Will empty the pantry, and wipe everything down with lavender/peppermint blend.
Nasty little things...

I agree. They're very persistent.
I should add that sometimes they do manage to eat holes in unopened packaging. Just depends on how long they've been in there. If you catch it early you might be able to save the contents. After checking the box to make sure it's clean (again, you must open both ends) just replace the bag and tape the box shut. I use clear wide packing tape. It's a pain to remove when you want to use the contents, but it seems to deter them from getting back into the box.

They do make a moth trap to help get rid of them, then use the herbs to keep them out. The moth trap has pheramones that attract them.

Vaccum cleaner with a long wand in the hands of a kid who loves to zap monsters in a video game. They make a very pleasing "thwip" sound as they race down the tube that rivals anything electronic.
Once the kid has his accuracy down pat, it's about the time when the wasps and mud dauberrs are looking for homes, and he can find the crack where they are getting into the attic and wipe out a whole colony in about an hour. They can't fly into the hole because it is too small, so each of them has to land near the hole and walk in. THAT is when he can suck them up. Tons of fun!
Leave the VC running until he has got all of the wasps, then a couple of squirts of bug poison down the wand, shut off machine and quickly plug the end with a wad of cloth. Let it sit for a day or two before removing the sack, them burn the sack....Joe

We don't have 'em in te pantry anymore & haven't for yrs. When we emptied it all we wiped it down-tops of shelves, underneath, everything w/orangeoil. Can't wipe the inside of the house w/orangeoil...I did the lavender oil in the closet. l get some peppermint oil today. Have vases of fresh mint all over. Have an overgrowth of oregano & figured what the hey, put it in vases too.

The moth traps are the best, I think, holding my own since going thru all that 4 years ago, now won't be without traps!

I guess a 22 is over kill. It works as long as you have a good aim, but makes a mess when you shoot moths resting on the oil bottle. Just remember to sift your flour to get the lead out of it before you bake anything, otherwise you might break a tooth.

We have had them, a couple of times. Never had any for more than fifty years, suddenly everybody gets them. I have brought them home in pasta esp. DH hangs up sticky tape in the pantry and they go for it. It takes a while though. New generations have to hatch and get caught, too.
