A teacher in grade school was teaching her class on whales, she stated whales could only swallow small objects. Now little Sally raised her hand and said but teacher a whale swallowed Jonah .The teacher said but that is impossible. Sally said well teacher when I get to heaven I will just ask Jonah . The teacher replied ,well what if he an't there ? Sally said well teacher in that case you can ask him .

I must admit, I got in SO much trouble as a child, in school, because of what I learned at home and in Church. I questioned everything and most of my teachers didn't appreciate it. But I learned how to read when I was 3. By the time I got to Kindergarten, I was a fluent reader. And I was Soooooooo bored. When I was 5, I was reading Charlotte's Web. I knew my addition/subtraction tables, and my multiplication/division tables. I was so frustrated when I was in school. I point this out to say.....some students are ready to learn Latin when they are 6. Most students are not, because not enough books are read to them. But I was ready, and I love Latin.
I was a very "bad student"!!!!!!

I was a very "bad student"!!!!!! I was a "bad" student, too. Languages are best taught when young and the brain is still physically malleable. Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to learn anything other than rudimentary Latin (in Catholic school at the beginning of Vatican II). But I was the student going ahead in the workbook, hiding books in my lap so I could read after they corrected me for "going too fast," doodling and day dreaming when the teacher droned on. I really ought not complain. As far as schools go, this one was quite progressive, and I learned a great deal. But I was often bored and unchallenged.

How many students in school are bored? 1/2 of them? No wonder our school system fails our students. Nobody is allowed to work ahead :-)

In elementary school... first grade we had Latin.. very basic... holy spirit school... second grade public school..fine Third grade teacher and I had problems.... I was limited to..."grade appropriate" books...sorry... mom h to deal with that I too was an early reader and quite bored with sick and jane plot lines. Free reading time was my choice so what was the teachers problem..she read to us and took to long to finish and I just go too interested and could read faster than she could read out loud...and I wanted to know what happened to Wilber and Charlotte... I wasn't trying to rob a bank... that and mom used the proper words for breeding female dogs that was mom hobby..so when asked about our pets at home and what they were I said we had two xxxxhes one was and Irish setter and one a short hair Belgium shepherd... Another call to mom...
Never had that word been used around me but for dogs. I honestly did not know it was a bad word.

You're not in school to learn anything other than "Sit down, shut up, do what I tell you to do."

Teachers today are even worse. You're not in school to learn anything other than "Sit down, shut up, do what I tell you to do." Homeschooling!!!!!!!!! Without a doubt, TMH! When I work with families struggling to fit in to the public schools, I advocate for homeschooling. Sometimes, people take the ball and run with it. Sadly, the majority prefer to stick with what they've been indoctrinated and inculcated to believe: Only "experts" can properly teach their children. It's so darned sad.

Understand parents today day have had it pounded into them that only a trained per the government policies and government standards are qualified to teach.
Sorry but historical libraries were important for educational rational in that each person could be self educated thru reading. Self motivation to improve their future.
Many uneducated parents were able to educate their children because parents were the head of the house... not the government and parents, by majority were allowed and comfortable to set standards with out the government's approval.
So, who will run for their school board next time there is a seat to fill.

Thank you so much for suggesting homeschooling to the families, and 1000 hugs to you!!!! As parents we teach our children to sit up, to walk, to talk, to brush their teeth and to be potty trained. After all of that, why can't we teach our kids to read and to do math? We can teach them History, Science, Geography and Health. None of this is rocket science. K-12 is pretty basic.

The system is running as it was planned to run, and you can't change it from within. Not saying I'm the best mole there is by any stretch, but I was in the system for three years with the sole intent of finding a way to reach those who wanted to get out. It was futile, despite partnering with a dynamic person with the same intent. We're both out of there, although he stuck it out a while longer. My experience in that most "tolerant" of school districts was intolerable.
