I was looking for something to read the other day, and I remembered how much I used to enjoy reading Louis L'amour books. I got on my Kindle, and bought "Sackett's Land", the story of Barnabas Sackett, the first of the Sacketts to come to the new world. If you are looking for a good read with lots of adventure, and heroes with integrity who are tougher than a $2 steak, Louis L'amour is tough to beat.

My boys love Louis L'Amour. I pick up the paperbacks at thrift stores and library sales whenever I see them. At our county library we are able to check out books for the kindles, up to five. There always seems to be a request for a L'Amour book or two. Perhaps your library offers the same service.

Bought mine back in the 80's... I think I'm missing a couple, ones that they came out with at the tail end of the collection. Stuff that was cobbled up from the bottom of the desk drawer or some of the non-fiction stuff. www.louislamourcollection.com/collection.php

I’m a big LL fan! My mother has/had all the Sackett books and I have several of his other books. One of my favorite non-Western, is the Walking Drum. Been years since I’ve read it. Hhmmm. Maybe I need to revisit some old friends myself.

we have a pig whose two front feet have white socks. Her name is Chicago.
Our cattle are 25% Red angus and 75% Black Angus. Our first calf was named red when she was born because she was red all over, unlike her all black momma. The second calf was named blackie, because was black. After about a month, Red turned black and Blackie turned red. It's very confusing. Calf number three is named Cinco which is Spanish for five. She was born on the 5th of November and was all red, but we weren't falling for that trick again. So none of the calves have names that fit.

Our first five sheep my sweet bride decided were Ruby, Roxy, Rosy, Rhonda, and Rufus. Our first five rabbits were Susie, Stephanie, Sally, Samantha, and (?) Tommy. She does give me naming rights every now and then, for instance, when we brought our latest Great Pyr home when we pulled in the drive I announced "Lucy you're home!"
When our mutt showed up here as a "walk up" dog she was covered with seed ticks. We put her in the tub to wash and pick them off, which she wasn't fond of. SB (I never have liked Dear Wife) trying to sooth her said "You'll be all right Princess", naming her right then.
The best dog I've ever had was named Rags. My folks bought him for me when I was two years old, and he was my only friend for the next three years. He was a Chow/Lab mix, with the size of a Lab and the disposition of a Chow. He was named something else originally, but when he tore the mailman's pants to rags he earned his name.

When we got our current pup, DW couldn't think of a name for him. She tried out several things but none of them fit just right. After two weeks of frustration, I told DW she had better find a name fast or I was going to name him after the then name in the news, Anthony Weiner. I warned her that if he got out of the yard we would have to wander the neighborhood yelling for WEINER. And if I took him for a walk past the playground, I would be asking children if the wanted to pet Weiner. She needed to name that dog something to keep me out of jail.
A couple more days went by and I would come home from work, enter the door, and yell, Where's my cute little Weiner?
DW soon picked, Ryder, much to my relief, because kids come out of the woodwork to get puppy love when you have a Dalmatian.

Over the years, we've had a few collies and shelties. They were named after different towns in Scotland.

I'm advising everyone right now not to ask Pony what her animals are named, most are Gaelic and unpronounceable from the written spelling. Even the ram she loaned us named Cedric is pronounced "Kedric".
