I've got a chicken named Earhart, because she was the first in her flock to figure out how to fly. She was flying out of the brooding box before she even had her proper feathers. I had to put a lid on it to keep her safe.
(Fortunately, she only flew out when she saw me, because she wanted to cuddle. She still loves attention so much she will shove her sisters out of the way to get it.)

We rarely name domestic animals because we keep so few. Sows usually are named Hil'ry or Rosie, Siamese cats dubbed Simon, Simon Jr., little Simon, etc.
We are more prone to name wild visitors who keep coming back. Until we drained the pond, we had yearly visits from a Sandhill crane named "Ichabod", of course, and the 18" Gila Monster, during his rare appearances is named "Carville".... after James Carville, the democratic operative who assisted the Clintons back in the day because both have poisonous mouths and both chew the poison in to the prey rather than injecting The man and the lizard both have similar quantities of hair up top, too.
One raven hangs around, known as "Poe", but never heard him say "nevermore" even once. The skunks, one and all, fail to answer to the name "DAMMIT!" even though we utter it every time we see one...….Joe
