If we were to add a strip of caulk (concrete & masonry silicone) around the concrete lid to "seal" it, will it make it a lot harder to get the lid off later? How many strips would you put around the lid? Hope this make sense.

Thanks, joebill. That looks good! Going to the big city tomorrow and will look for that. We have played around with the lid and no dice.

I put a septic tank riser kit on ours. No more digging, no odors as it has a gasket seal, and ground level so I just mow over it. I don't know anything about this company, I bought ours locally from a company that makes septic tanks, but this gives an idea of what I'm talking about.
ETA: I left the old concrete 2'x2' lid on the tank. It has a handle, so it pulls right up through the riser.

Thank you. Will look more into that, Tom. Looks like something we could use!

................You could simply use some Hydraulic cement and seal the gap between the lid and the tank ! Hyd. cement dries VERY FAST............in like a couple of minutes or so , SO you mix very quickly and use a putty knife to fill in the gap ! No lifting of the lid, etc. , BUT make sure that you remove all dirt around the tank so you have 100% access to the gap . ...............Hint , mix small quantities at first when you start so you have an idea as to the time frame for applying the product . Then you can mix a larger quantity and feel confident that you 'Know' what you're doing . , fordy
