I don't know what to suggest. But, I have an observation. Some threads are getting difficult to follow because some members are IMO just popping off and interjecting comments in an attempt to pick an argument. Instead of occassionally being cheeky, or being cheeky in threads started to be silly. Imo it's not very conducive to enjoying jumping online as time permits to follow chats and add thoughts. I'm not terribly impressed by people who enjoy endlessly popping off with cheap shots and flouncy their superiority complex and demanding others attention, rather than critiquing and criticizing with actual thoughts and even occasionally expressing an interest in others posts. Instead I'm seeing a lot of comments about other posts merely being entertaining target practice. My thoughts anyway. I admit I'm a bit drained from my week. But, these are thoughts I had and chose to share tonight. I'm not sure if you're meaning the same thing, but I've been a bit confused the last couple days too. I think some posts are getting deleted, and leaves the conversation looking a little funny and hard to understand. I have not seen anything that indicates posts deleted, but I know some have. Tom, is there something that tells us there's a post gone? It might be right in front of me and I'm not seeing it.

............I don't think posts should be deleted ! Adults need to be able to argue with each other and quit wearing their emotions on the end of their shirt sleeves ! I'm quite sure I'll post something that will piss OFF some members , but , they have the pERogative of firing right back at me . ............I'm most certainly not going to lose any sleep over something I said that others disagreed , with ! , fordy

partndn, It's my fault. I hate deleting posts, so if there's any way to salvage a particularly objectionable one I'll edit it, trying to keep the thought, but cleaning it up. Sometimes there's just no way to edit one, so I've deleted it. I don't have a way (that I know of) to delete a post and leave a message to that effect. I think from now on, rather than deleting the entire post, I'll edit the comment out, and replace it with a message saying what I've done. I'm hoping we won't have a need for editing/deleting posts in the future, but some things just aren't allowed.

No fault Tom, you gotta do your thing. A note in place of deleted should clear things up more. Good idea.

This is a problem for me. I just decided not to post something I find interesting because I knew that almost immediately a person who shall remain nameless will post a personally derogatory remark that other nameless people will respond to in kind and the original issue will be immediately lost. It is not that I object to thread drift- that is frequently interesting. It is constant intentional derailment that is grating. Within the first 2 posts or so, it becomes a spitefest. But it must be very time consuming to edit each post, although that would tend to keep things on track. It's frustrating. And I donxt know if a solution is even pissible.

whereiwant2b,I understand completely. I've been sending PMs in an effort to minimize/eliminate this problem before it metastasises. I'm seeing improvement, and we'll continue to work on it. None of us has a problem with seeing opposing views, it's when those opposing views include negative innuendo they stop being productive. I don't want to become a nanny, but it's my (and the mods) responsibility to provide a snark-free environment to the members who came here to get away from negativity. Bear with us, and continue to post whatever you'd like.

Now if you support the current administration then I take back my remark and say "it was nice knowing you" cause anybody that thinks this is utopia is a few fries short of a happy meal.

Is it ok to post a response with a canned version of "After reading your post and editing out invective, insult and unsupported negative opinion, I find you have said nothing worth a response."? Or is that too insulting?

whereiwant2b,In my opinion, a response with no effort to address negative comments is the best response. Otherwise you're taking the bait. I try to stay on issue, and let them flounder.

You can name names... we dont mind. Post anything you find interesting, the point of a forum is to discuss it, and that often means disagreement and a little debate. I think maybe you are used to HT style heavy handedness. Tom is doing a fine job. I poked glockdude for good reason. Use your google machine.
