This forum has been up and running for a little over 2 months now, we're up to 92 members, and I sincerely hope everyone enjoys it here. I know I do.
As many of you know, this is indeed my first rodeo. There was originally 2 of us as admins, with me being mostly moral support. What happened isn't important, but this being my first and only venture into running a website, and my only other real exposure to discussion sites being HT, I'm sure there are some things we could do to improve on what we've done so far.
Don't get me wrong, we've got some wonderful mods, and they've been a great help, but I'm thinking maybe with all the folks here and their experiences with other sites, there might be some things we've overlooked so far that we might try.
In my welcome messages I always ask for suggestions or comments to make the site better (by the way, those aren't form letters), and I've been able to follow through on several suggestions so far. So if you have any thoughts along this line, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks to all of you for your participation,
Tom

How about a forum for bills pending with a sticky of how to connect with our critter.
That way we can flesh out the pending....Lord knows the critters need to be spoon Fed cause they "didn't know xyz was tucked in the bill".... the more active we are the better Government we get...

You're doing a great job Tom.
Well, I have to think about this a little.
My first thought is how the last few times I've posted a question over at the other place, I can't hardly get any answers. I had a chicken issue, and hardly got any replies. The backyard chickens forum is awesome full of info, but.. it's so massive that you are lucky to get answers, and/or the people who answer you, you don't know them at all and don't have the comfort of kinda having a familiarity. The group here is small enough that even if it grows quite a bit, we'll feel familiar with everyone here. I thought all along, this place was not replace the other, except for more general and political discussions, and a few other bonuses.
I asked a question in the sewing forum about an old machine, and after a pretty good amount of folks posting, I added another question. A well seasoned member posted that I check out the quilting board (another forum altogether) since there was a vintage section there. She knew all about my question, but said she tried not to bog down the sewing forum with vintage machine info. Well why not? info is info. I did go to the quilting board, and sure it's great. But again.. so massive and big that it's too overwhelming for me to fell like I could "join" in. It would take quite some time, maybe years, to get familiar on another board that is so big.
Anyway, those are my frustrations. I don't like having to go to bunches a places. I like consolidated.
Paisley's idea for politics, maybe a sticky, to keep up to date on congress votes and activity is a unique idea that I could see fly here.

I really like it here! I can't give any suggestions, but I do thank you for this forum! It's so nice to have a place to discuss without insults or personal attacks.

Thank you for this place.
I have spent time at HT and backwoodshome.com Now that I am not a home owner, I don't spend as much time in the 'homesteady' type sub boards......I hope that changes soon. That is part of my 'infraction issues' on HT.....too much time in GC HA HA HA HA HA
I think you are doing a mighty fine job.

I think you're doing a mighty fine job Tom. I appreciate the fact you have given us a place to sit around the campfire and share information without the snarky attitudes overtaking what started out as a calm and quiet conversation. I may not contribute as much as I normally would only because I'm just not feeling well. But I still enjoy coming here to read others contributions.
I have been pondering on asking about a "private" general chat subforum.

The one thing I appreciate more than anything is feeling freed to civilly disagree without fear of trolls hunting me down and hyjacking thread after thread. If you are really large, can you keep that from happening? So I like small, although I appreciate more view points, I've been made very leery of the HT danger. One thing I've always wanted is to have a 'next page' button at the bottom of a page too so that I don't have to go back to the top after reading down the list in order to get to the next page. But I do thank you so much for providing a place like this.

I'll look into that. I'm wondering if there isn't already a site that accumulates that information, and we could do some "copy & paste" here. Otherwise, that's pretty time consuming. But I do thank you so much for providing a place like this. The Proboards formatting doesn't allow me to put the pages at the bottom, but they're always at the top of your screen until you get past the last post. I was a little confused at first, thinking I'd posted to the first page, only to realize there was a second. I asked Forum Support about it, but they didn't have a good answer. As to trolls hijacking threads, all the mods have instant banning powers, and I encourage them to use them in a case of someone being a complete jerk. I'm hesitant to delete threads or posts. I didn't like it at HT, where after several posts were deleted you had no idea where the conversation was anymore. I do edit posts from time to time when a word I didn't have in the "censored" list pops up, but I always leave a note as to why it was edited.

I have a android type phone, and it looks different here on the phone vs on a laptop. On the phone I can't see things like clicking new posts or threads, etc. Can't remember exactly what those tabs say. I think they're on the upper right side though.
I might be looking in the wrong spot though, not sure. Don't know if that's something that can change.
Also, I can see how many people like a post, but not who they are, like on HT. So, sometimes, I end up clicking a post again and accidently see the number of likes go down because I removed my like by mistake. That confused me.
I really like it here, and don't know those if those things can be changed or someone can tell me if I'm just using this site wrong.
I think it's an awesome place to be online. And, I appreciate the folks who are running it and the folks who are members here. So, thanks y'all.
I hope you have a merry Christmas. I've missed being here for the last couple weeks. Only had a few moments to spare here. Wrestling is consuming us!!!! In a good way. But, I'm thinking of y'all and praying for y'all.
Gotta run to the store for holiday food now. The boys had a tournament yesterday...and practice this morning. They're showered, but I gotta get their gear all washed. It does not smell like Christmas in my house right now, lol!

I am glad I was invited to join this place. I like it here. Here is my opinion: I think it is big enough. It is nice to evtl know everybody, I don't have to agree with you ,nor you with me, but I can like you all and wish you merry christmas, joy, health and prosperity. and, since I like a beer with dinner, cheers.

I feel very much at home here and think Tom has done a great job. I love being able to post and not have to contend with snarky people who just want to attack when they don't agree or just to keep perpetual agitation going. I feel very secure knowing that the mods will do their jobs and not use favoritism.
I think topics are going to get more and more interesting in 2016 as the election draws nearer.

I had an Android phone. After a month of frustration it's resting on the bottom of the James River. This site is supposed to be compatible with all devices, so I can't help you there. As to the "likes", you'll only see who the 3rd and other likes are my clicking on the "2 others liked", then you have to X out the list to continue viewing. Proboards definitely has different idiosyncracies than HT, but after 2 months I'm nearly used to them.

Thank you for this board! I have not been on much lately but can say this place helped to unhook me from HT [now a lost cause, don't throw pearls before swine!]
But here's my problem with reading, is there anyway you could have more sections? Right now i get overwhelmed with all the posts. Just for starters how about a section where everything to do with articles about muslims, islam could be put? WE could reply when we see something new and just keep moving on.. It is a hot topic that we all are interested in. For me it would really save time but Of coarse that's just me.
