farmrbrown, What exactly are we to make of this statement in your previous post? "Just sayin, with 3% of the world's population it might be a good idea to occasionally listen to how the other 97% view us." Does that read like 97% has a negative view? Sure does to me. You made a blanket statement that's easily recognized for what it is, own up to it.

"Just sayin, with 3% of the world's population it might be a good idea to occasionally listen to how the other 97% view us. It's possible that they are ALL wrong, but I wouldn't bet more than a dollar on it. " Pretty easy to assume you meant that the 97% all hate us...... Look, nobody is claiming you do not know anything, but your experience is vastly different than most of us. You were born two years after the cuban missile Chriss, and missed the 40's and the 50's altogether. We watched the russians consume roughly half the civilized world and work hard at the rest, and many in our own nation considered our surrender to the soviets to be inevitable. MANY, MANY actually bought the tripe they were putting out and looked forwards to it! Notice that when the wall fell, none of those soviet satallites hung around for more. They simply could not wait to be out on their own! Anyhow, enough of this......Joe

I don't mind owning what I wrote. And no, it wasn't meant to be a "set up" but it did validate what I was seeing in some of the comments on here. The first sentence isn't what y'all THINK it said..........
.....and that's where y'all assume that anything less than magnificent is automatically at the other end of the scale. (very low/negative opinion/and even hate) Sorry, no.
I'm sure there ARE some that view us that way, some that think we're ok, and some that admire us and think very highly of us like our friends. But even friends, or I should say especially friends, know our flaws as well as our virtues. I guess the follow up post missed the mark too. But gist of it is, a little pride goes a long way. When the Founders were passing out the credit for their success, they remembered to take only a small portion of it and not more than they deserved. We didn't get where we are all by ourselves and when we DO give back to the world some of our good fortune, doing it with a little humility shows our good character even more, no?

Humility is just fine, and we are all admonished to humble ourselves before God daily.
On the other hand, humbling ourselves before the likes of China and Russia gets us right where we are today.
America got to be what she is by displaying a LOT OF CHEEK to the world, and without it we are seriously diminished.
Doubt it? Biden is the very soul of humility, so list his foriegn policy accomplishments so far and weep......Joe

sunny225, I'd caution taking much of what this guy says as unbiased truth. His bio reads like a Russia Today opinion writer:

Tom kinda took the words out of my mouth, but did a better job of research than I would have.
I was just gonna say that taking reports off of russia's news service which is even far more influenced by government than ours is not a likely road to any sort of truth.
You can find somebody out there willing to say dang near anything, and even more so if it profits Russia or makes them seem an object of pity or persecution. Often, there is hardly anybody telling the truth, which makes it even harder, but one can, over time, learn to recognize the blatant lies more easily by looking at history as it is being made and reading serious works of history from the past.
As an example, I recall the day and the hour when Soviet Russia finally gave up and let people run through the few gaps in the wall near the Brandenburg gate. There was no guard in that early morning, and some folks walked up to the wall, hesitated, looked around for the man with the rifle who was not there any more, then slipped quietly through, hunched over like they expected a bullet in the back until they were well on the other side. Others hit the gap running like a scalded dog, laughing insanely. Hardly anybody was carrying a damn thing that morning....happy just to get away with their lives.
Within weeks, folks from all over the world arrived, thinking that they would set up in business in this land newly blessed with liberty, but were crushed to learn that most of the government tyrants remained on the job, but now in the form of the Russian Mafia, which demanded a BITE out of everything that happened there. Nothing new, it was as corrupt and crokked as ever, but they just quit pretending otherwise.
I only say all of that to say this; You can believe anything you want to about Russia, but if you have not at least seem it on the news with your own eyes, chances are good you are making a mistake.....Joe

Just another small blip;
When I heard the reports on the radio that morning, I flipped through the music stations, expecting to hear the same song that seemed to be just about everywhere in 1962 when I was a sophomore in High School, but not a station was playing it. It seems that the music industry at the time was at a low ebb where patriotism was concerned. Even the news stations had nothing much good to say about the "death of communism"...just like today....Joe ENJOY!
