Only 7:30 am here. But I did get 10 wagon loads of wood chips into the muddy chicken run this morning. Came inside to finish my coffee and have another doughnut, lol. About 10-15 more loads to go to have that pile finished. Chicken appreciate not having muddy feet I have such a long list of "To-Do's" that I'm unsure what I'll tackle next.

Been up since 2 am but it’s a bit difficult to do anything outdoors at that time. 😁 If I can time it right, I’ll be burning papers this morning as we’re expecting rain (it’s dry here already which is a safety hazard). The trick will be getting the papers burned before it rains, but with good showers afterward to alleviate the fire danger.
Then will be checking 2 barns, the yards and barnyard, the garage and the other house for anything I may have forgotten or need to dispose of.
I’ve made myself a ToDo list a mile long, broke it down into daily tasks for this week. Hope I can finish it all.

Mowed yesterday evening. Out this morning at first light to fertilize, water & inspect. Picked some shelly beans (Flagrano), a few snap beans.
I guess this isn't my year for growing tomatoes. Or yellow squash. I mean, for pity's sake, who can't grow yellow squash? Major cutworm activity this year (aside from having lousy germination problems). Then I planted more squash seeds in grow bags only to have *something* come in the night & dig 1/2 the dirt out of the bags. Can't win for losing. Thankfully, I do have a few tomato plants (Gardener's Delight & Principe Bourghese) in grow bags in another part of the yard that are doing fine. But I sure ain't gonna have the tomato harvest I had last year.
But the cukes, beans, eggplants & peppers are doing great. Hope I'm not jinxing it by saying that. Here's hoping for a bumper harvest.

Harvested radishes and turnips. Kale is ready.
Tomatoes got a dose of Tomato Tone......they are pityful. Patty Pan squash is pityful.
Garlic is AMAZING. Peaches are so so AMAZING.
Herbs are taking forever to grow. Melons (canalope and watermelon) are pityful.
One day it's 90 the next 70, no rain, then Noah's flood.
The garden is WORK this year lol.

This morning, I've spread compost on the tomato bed, dug up/potted some Obedient plants to share with DD as well as transplanting some to another bed in my yard, planted zucchini seeds, staked the eggplants, potted on several rooted wisteria cuttings, watered everything.
Planted a couple pots of lettuce seeds. I'm experimenting this year to see if I can grow it in the shade, where it's 'cooler'. Perhaps I can get enough for a few more salads before temps get too hot.
It's 9:30 a.m. and I'm already pooped. Thankfully there are leftovers (broccoli chicken rice casserole) in the fridge, so I don't have to cook today.

Pulled 4 kinds of garlic and hung it in the garage to dry!!! Potatoes in the foreground, tomatoes in the back round. Sorta Ruth Stout method. My son and DIL got a pup last week. She is a Shiba Inu, about 7 months old. They rescued her from a junk breeder! Her name is Suki, which means "beloved one". She's pretty precious

Picked about 7 pounds of good looking strawberries. Tomorrow I’m going to cut the tops off of them as they are already washed and leave them on plastic trays to freeze and then I just twist the tray and pop them into bags flash frozen.
Homegrown strawberries don’t last long. I made the mistake of trying to keep them more than a day in the fridge the first time I grew them.

Well let's see what have I done...Tues. was the rip roaring storm. So Tues night I got the driveway cleared out. Last night DD and BF came up to help me clear big limbs from in front of the chicken house. Today was check the garden and do major cussing since the deer went in and nipped off all the young sunflower. Thank heavens I have deer netting up over the important things. DANG DEER I'm beginning to really hate deer. Deer season can't come quick enough. OH OH what's those long green beans? Do they taste like a blue lake type bean?

woolybear, This is the first year of me growing the long beans. I got the seeds from Bakers Creek, and they say they are 'less earthy' than KY Bluelakes. And one long bean is like 3-4 reg. beans. I will let you know when I pick 'em and eat 'em!

Killed 10,000 Japanese beetles. Ha ha ha not really as God has blessed me with very few this year. I have been harvesting delicious arugula and romaine mixed lettuce you buy it’s really expensive at the store. We do not have tomatoes or anything like that yet as it was a very late spring and cold start in June. I’m hoping for a lot of beans and we are eating snack snow pea pods. Picking the first of the blueberries off are 30+ bushes. For the first time the Orchard will have some fruit although I don’t know how much. This is a start I hope.
