Still nursing an injured back (slipped at work, twisted pretty bad) I am moving SLOW (grrrrrr) Weed wacked and mowed the silly grass in front. Finished ripping out the strawberry bed and readied for potatoes. Pulled all the weeds out of the "flower" bed, which will be a tomato / herb bed this year. Started the following (at least 6 of each) Orange Accordion Tomato Purple Reign Tomato Sart Roloise Tomato (yellow and black) Watermelon Beefstake Tomato Black Beauty Tomato
Looks like this week will be silly weather (cold, hot, snow, sunburn.....all in one day lol) but next week looks like it's going to warm up and stay that way!!

Chipped out blocks of ice ...16 yards of Ice piled away from the house to minimize flooding! I have one more day....as it warms up the ice breaks up with less effort. It is hard work

laurazone5, that fence is new, isn’t it? My memory’s bad but I don’t recall that being there before. Either way, looks great!

Hid Easter Eggs in the yard today and then watched the 3 grand-ladies find them. Giggled a lot.

wildhorseluvr, yes, the fence was put up last year. I couldn't look at the trash next door one more year. Mowed and wacked the back yard. Cleaned the mower. Planted the following Red and Blue Kale (2 each type) 7 top, purple top, and shogoin turnips (27 each type) Bulls Blood, Cylindrical, and Golden Beets (27 each type) Saw my 2nd bee, 2nd fuzzy black and yellow bee today. Buzzing my peach blossoms. YAY Had a "visitor" while I was taking a break. Mama Cardinal 10 feet away. Watched a woodpecker go HAM on the walnut tree next door (PS: I want to kill that tree) Daffodils are out. Tulips are almost bloomed out. Grilled Lamb Burgers and Brats for dinner. Watchin' hockey and relaxing after an amazing day!

About 10 years ago we planted four miniature apple trees. We've never gotten an apple. Every year when they'd bloom we'd get a hard frost, but this year no frost. Maybe??

Looks fantastic, laurazone5. Ozarks Tom, The same happens to me a LOT with my fruit trees. Often get just enough warmth for the trees to bloom, then get frost. Last year I ignored them entirely, didn’t prune, barely watered. Probably just coincidence but I had the biggest crop and biggest apples to date. They weren’t sprayed so I just let my pet deer eat them.

Can't do much in the garden for a few more days. Four inches of rain can really mess up a person's schedule. So I did some mowing with the push mower. Spent a great deal of time wishing my battery operated chainsaw would come in to the store. I need to saw up an ash tree that fell into the garden and I really don't feel like stringing a couple of extension cords together for the electric chainsaw. Ordered a dozen 10 gallon grow bags. Trying to convert as much veggies to raised beds as I can, bending down anymore is not what it's cracked up to be - only thing cracking is my back.

Found a local farmer selling straw bales grown without any chemical applications so I picked up a dozen to use for a straw bale garden. I just spent a few hours 'injecting' them with coffee grounds from the local Starpukes which will help them rot down faster to provide nutrients for the garden plants. Had the best green beans we ever had last year with this method so we'll try it again! Plus I can use what's left of last years bales (half of what we started with) to cover some taters.

I bought 4 large livestock water tanks last year for raised beds. Planted my taters in one tank I think mid-March. They were just starting to come up when the weather called for frost. So I put some straw over the top of the plants. They were growing big, strong and taller and another call for snow, so more straw on top of them and a waterproof mattress protector was tossed over them. Then they were over a foot tall and dang if frost wasn't called for again. Had to fix a clear tarp over them. The plants are huge now and starting to get flower buds on them. Never have I had potatoes get flowers this early in the year, that usually seemed to happen in July. Can't wait to see what they make.

Most of the snow is gone from my DIY ski slope. The goats got to roam free to day.
