I picked up The French Chef, and I'm reading through the recipes. Too bad the pics are B&W. Cook books are fun.

I enjoy reading old cook books, WWII era or prior.
Right now I’m reading A Higher Call (WWII) by Adam Makos, Liars, Leakers and Liberals by Judge Jeanine Pirro, and reading through Revelation, along with Dr. Vernon McGee’s book and audio.

I have two fabulous old cookbooks. One is from right before WWII, and the other is a reprint of an old 1940's Polish cookbook (in English). The late Tank the Dog ate my first Polish cookbook. Nick found a reprint for me. <3

I ended up with both of my grandmothers' cookbook collections. I also buy them from the 'Friends of the Library' book room. Lately, most of the books I've been getting there used to belong to a woman who lived in town. I guess her kids didn't want them. I only chatted with her once, but now I think she and I would have been great friends. It makes me kind of sad.

Was by the salvage/buy out store the other day and they had several of the Killing ____ books by O'Reilly for cheap. Lincoln is finished, currently reading Killing Patton and Killing Reagan is on que.

I can usually pick them up as cheap as .50 but have heard mixed reviews so I haven’t bought any yet.

Speaking of cookbooks....in the past few months, I have acquired the following that I am reading: Secrets of the Great Old-Timey Cooks: this one is fun and has some 'lore' interspersed (i.e. Always bake a cake while the sun is going up or it will fall) The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy (Revolutionary 1805 classic) It's a must have for anyone who has never made eel pie. ROFL Log Cabin Cooking (Pioneer recipes and food lore) same author as Secrets of the.... Old-Time Farmhouse Cooking Again, same author There are some great harvest bread recipes in it The Country Housewife's Family Companion (digital re-print of a book originally published in 1750). Heard about this one on Townsends. It reads like a book and is fascinating to me.
Here's a little exert: To forward the ripening of Apples, Pears, etc., lay them in heaps as soon as gathered. The larger the heap, the sooner they will sweat. Thus by sweating they will ripen and be fit to eat; or otherwise, to use the sooner you may shake them in a sack and by their being rubbed against one another, it will forward their ripening.
