wildhorseluvr , I have not read that one. I got these after watching an episode of the Townsends. I pick it up and lay it back down - just haven't had time to read these days. Well, that’s one advantage to reading cookbooks...if you’re interrupted at least you don’t lose track of the plot.

I just finished reading "Screwtape Letters" again. Funny how good books give you new material to consider each time. I’m been thinking I need to reread that one again soon. Once I get this place sold, I think I’ll dig that one out and reread it. I recently bought 2-3 other C.S. Lewis books to reread. Plenty of new gems to discover each time.

From The Country Housewife's Family Companion: To cure a cough - my Landlord, the late Mr. Colemare, Rector of Little Gaddesden assured me, that the following Receit is an infallible Cure for a Cough. Boil two ounces of Spanish Liquorice with three cloves of Garlick, in a Quart of Spring Water, till it comes to a Pint; take a spoonful of it now and then as the Fit happens. For an Asthma--A Man was kept many Years alive by drinking (as his common Drink) Rum, Water and Sugar. Whey is good, and Beer almost Poison.--One Daniel Watkins, of Long Margon, near Aylesbury, declared to me, that he was cured of an Asthma by swallowing young frogs.

wildhorseluvr, This book is an absolute hoot to just read a little once you get past the "f" being used in place of an "s". (Old English style??) I was reading a part of it the other day on "How to milk an unlucky cow and prevent her Mischief". BTW - spoiler alert - it involves wearing a black hat! LOL

LOL Yeah, getting used to the writing can be a challenge. In doing genealogy, I’ve read a lot of old wills and such, they can be difficult to decipher. One of my DH’s ancestors went outside the norms (of leaving everything to the eldest son) and also provided generously for his daughters. He bequeathed a runaway slave to her...”if you can find him.” 🙄 (And yes, that’s no doubt racist...but part of history, unpleasant as it may be.)

I read a reproduction of an old newspaper from colonial days that contained a "lost and found" type ad for "one black slave named Rufus, offering reward of two pence and NO THANKS"
That was pretty close to the ad. He might be willing to give a couple of bucks to get the slave back, but don't expect any gratitude on his part if you come to claim the reward....Joe

Anybody who craves a chance to read a new string of westerns and has read Lois Lamore far too many times to do it again can begin on the Mc cabe series. I think they DO hold a candle to old Louie and so far there are 13 books in the series to keep you busy for a while. You can read them for "free" on Kindle unlimited or buy them for a buck per eachum, which might be cheaper..... www.amazon.com/Long-Trail-McCabes-Book-ebook/dp/B00BH78F4SI may get sick of them before I get halfway through, but so far I am very much looking forwards to #4.....Joe

Just finished "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less". Enjoyed true story of how author's mother kept her family going in 1950s by writing jingles and and slogans.

The constitution and supporting documents...
The supporting docs are books written at the times by the founding fathers.
Thing I have learned.
Do to the desire to prevent centers prisons and to promote commerce private ownership of all was found to be the key....
BUT that was also the wrench that stopped the ending of slavery.
How can 2/5 (end slavery) to 3/5 who saw slaves a property.
The founding fathers fought amidst each other..
The only thing was to was the 2/3 deal and to limit it to each state issue. With the anti slave members hoping ing private businesses opportunities would aid more need of employees ...( I am still reading on that logic)
No where in the constitution banned women voting. Wyoming has always from day one had women voting.
The constitution teaching is so distorted.
There were some petty attacks against the founding fathers...
Trust be verify read the constitution and read the supporting docs. An amazing how school books lied.

Several years ago we loaned out our copy of Survivors by James W Rawles and never got it back. I have to admit, that book sent us on our journey in prepping in earnest. Sweet Bride hadn't read it before we loaned it, but bought a copy a couple weeks ago.
Survivors was Rawles first book of three in that genre, and by far his best and I've read them all. I highly recommend it.
