partndn , you really have a gift. Have you considered doing that for a living? Naw, I'm an idiot. These people who "hire" me are friends and folks I know from church. Some of them get quite generous in paying me even after I tell them a lower cost. Some don't have a lot of money, and appreciate a nice flower thing for much less than a florist would charge. I could never own a business independently. I would need a person to handle the finances and prices, or I would go broke. This has been talked about before with cooking stuff. I'm pretty good at cooking for a crowd, good food, quality food. I don't like or mess with the foo foo portion of entertaining, seems wasteful to me. I've done a lot of dinners/events for church things for very little money. Once, my sister in law said she would handle the pricing and the foo foo stuff, so I could not be giving my time away. LOL Nope, I don't think I'm meant to own a biz in either flowers or food. I think it's just something I can use to give some joy, and receive some too. I'm 2 weeks into my new job though (component sales distribution, which is what I used to do years ago). And I don't mind one BIT they pay me a good living wage and commission for my efforts!! And some benefits, and good people to work with.. Whoohoo!

There is a LOT to be said for a person who knows how to keep the job and the enjoyment in their own compartments......Joe

Not a lot of flower doings the last year or so. Was working Saturdays and now have full time work, so anyway.. Our Director of Music Ministries is taking another job as a supervisor of a new music dept in the local school system, and the flowers this week are in his honor. His favorite color is purple. I was not happy with what I got as the darker purple snaps are hard to see against green. And the roses are more pink tipped I wanted lavender, lighter purple, but this is what I got.

Gorgeous! Question: The yellow "towers", the the stems really that sturdy of did you have to reinforce them?

The yellow "towers" LOL are snapdragons. The dark purple too. No, they're pretty stem hardy and no reinforcement needed.

They look nice. For cheap flowers you can always raid the local cemetery. Are you spying on us?!
There is a cemetery right up the road from our house ... we hit up the dump behind it a couple of times a year. The sexton just throws all the old arrangements in a big heap, then bulldozes them over into a ravine eventually. We pick out all of the plastic pots and sometimes find nice silk flowers and even live plants in the mix! Last spring I rescued a couple of gerbera daisies that were near death from dehydration but revived and went on to bloom beautifully all summer.
Partndn, your arrangements are lovely and you definitely have talent! Ever thought of turning your knack into a little side hustle? I'll bet people would hire you to do their wedding flowers!

Thank you. I've made a buck or two over the years, but only for friends and people I like to help. I don't have the knack for charging enough to make it actually profitable. I also stick to my church where I can take loose pieces to and do the arranging there because transporting such things is a really big obstacle after they are put together. This week I spent exactly (plus a tad of my own) the amount that was agreed to. My time and effort is part of a gift to the fella who is leaving as our music director. Off topic, this guy is musically gifted and a great leader to work with adults and children both, but also is a fabulous human in many ways. He's been like having another minister without the title. He's visited my mom and dad in the hospital, at home, etc. and does that kind of thing for many people. Not part of his job, he's just a good fella.
