I thought I'd put this here. I guess it's sort of a tip..
Our church has fresh flowers every week in he sanctuary. We put out a calendar, and members volunteer to provide the arrangement, and then it's in the bulletin "in memory of..." or "in honor of..." or whatever occasion. Sometimes it's just because.
Then, we have a team of 3 ladies who take apart the arrangement on Monday. This is out little flower ministry. They make smaller ones that get delivered to shut ins, people who have been sick, people who have had surgery, etc. There's a nice tag attached saying they were thought about and prayed for.
I love the repurpose aspect and double use!
(of course, if you donated the flowers you are free to take them home or whatever, but most people don't)
A long time ago, I wanted the arrangement for my memaw's birthday. I had looked into what they cost for a nice big one, and Whew!!! it was a lot. I decided to put something together myself.
Ever since then, I do my own, and lots of friends ask me to do theirs when it's their turn.
Our church seats about 500-600. So if a person asks the florist for a $50 arrangement, it's very small and almost not visible. It has to be a bit large for it to show up for the folks half way back and further.
I use a lot of yard stuff. And I buy some at the large grocery who has floral dept. And I've gotten tight with the fella at a farmer's market who lets me pick loose pieces what I want, and charges me very reasonable.
Depending on the time of year and what's blooming, we can have a really nice big arrangement for not a lot of money.
I buy the oasis by the case now from amazon. In the past, I got it at Michaels, but it's too expensive that way.
If there's any florists here, I feel kinda bad! Not trying to take business. And my local florist is very friendly with me as I buy things from them often too. Especially if I need something specific, I call ahead and ask them to have it for me.
The kicker is I have a key to my church. I do the arrangement in the parlor kitchen, right off the sanctuary. I could never travel with the arrangement and not mess it up. So if I couldn't do it there, I'd be in trouble. Lot to be said for those delivery guys and vans that are equipped with special holders that keep things from moving.
I'll post some pics here I have of some of the ones I've done. Maybe it will come in handy for you sometime to give a go at your own for whatever reason.
